These are so well worth the investment. I purchased three and at the end of the week,, they were full of dead flies. I've cleaned them out, added fly attractant refills and they're working hard again. These are much better than the disposable traps I was using previously.
I have been using the Fly Terminator Pro for less than 3 weeks. In that short period of time, it has already been completely filled with flies. It started to work really well once I placed it in a sunny spot. I love that I can use less fly spray on my horses as well. I ordered the extra packages of attractant & will be using a fresh one tomorrow! It's great that it is reusable ( I'm very into the eco-friendly aspect) and durable. I definitely would recommend at least one of these on every property!
I put this out in the compost bin area late April filled with distilled water to fill line and the small container of attractant that comes with it. It does smell bad-that's why it works. It makes the flies leave the horses immediate surroundings if you place it away from where they like to stand. After 6 weeks the container is half full of dead flies and I will probably clean it and refill it in a week or so. I have moved it to several locations when I see flies in different areas around the property. If the wind changes and brings the smell where I don't want it, I move it. Last summer I tried using fly predators and did not notice much improvement. Fly Terminator Pro seems to help for many types of flies, but I do not notice a reduction of some small ones that I call "sticky cattle flies" because they land and sit there on the horse. The cattle that graze on the open range in the area bring them in. I also use essential oil fly repellant that I mix myself and the sticky rolls of fly tape that hang. Our stalls and paddocks are cleaned at least twice daily, but some untidy horse-owning neighbors are close enough to create a fly problem for us. I put fly sheets on as well. We have trouble with midges. Some vaseline on the bellies in the spots where the hair parts keeps them from biting as much. Fly sheets with belly bands help. I feed a garlic supplement to help repel insects, and I am not sure how effective it is, but garlic also has other benefits. One neighbor who likes to visit the horses over the fence teased me and said I was torturing the flies with a slow death. Better than flies torturing the horses!
Our small ranch has been a Beta-Tester for fly products (expensive ones up to $300), this product delivers....dead flies at a fraction of the cost. Better than fly bags, strips, bell domes, etc. Use along with fly predators and your horses will be happy campers.
I have had this up for 2 weeks and have captured all kinds of flies and some nat sized critters. It does stink, but it does work there is a 2 inch decomposing bunch of flies at the bottom of the jar and they keep on coming. The flies are getting smaller and smaller I am hoping this means they are the newest crop.
I have nearly 50 horses stabled. I used fly predators, feed through fly control, fly bait and traps. This particular trap is extremely effective. If it isn't catching enough flies, it needs to be moved to another spot.
They are definitely for use out of doors. The scent reminds me of a butcher shop. That said, I hung one of these in the far corner of my horse's corral and in less than a week it had 3" of dead flies floating. I still use a disposable catcher to hang below his feed bin as they are always attracted to that location. I am very pleased with this fly trap and recommend it without hesitation. It is larger that I realized when I order it. I'd guess 12" HIGH X 5" DIAMETER. I wore latex gloves to keep the scent off my hands.
What an incredibly awesome product! So much better than the small disposable fly traps. These traps get FULL of flies. I'm seeing the fly population around my horses diminish drastically. I bought three of these traps and consider them a super investment. I've had them about 1.5 months and have already had to clean and refill them with replacement fly attractant twice already. They really trap that many flies!
It has been a horrible spring and summer in the NW. Most years I go until almost September before I bring out the bug spray. This year it started in May! The floors in the stalls move when you walk in! I decided to try these fly traps based on other's recommendations. They are awesome! The odor the flies love is a very faint "Ode du Porta-Potty", recognizable to any horse show participant. The flies were on it in seconds! I stood there in my barn, rather geeky, enjoying the whole show, then dragging other family members in to witness the spectacle of 30-40 flies crowding in. In the two weeks since, the fly bodies have contined to accumulate. Now it smells disgusting. I don't look forward to emptying it, but it has most certainly done it's job. Refill of "Ode du Porta-Potty" is in my next Smartpak shipment.
Personal thinks, Value only $2,00 dollars Compared with electric cooker.
