Some electronics need a better connection than wifi and Ethernet cable is a pain to run any distance. So I've been using powerline adapters for years to supplement my network. I already have TPLink nano 200AV adapters, so my main feed adapter connected to the router is the TPLink. I plugged these Trendnet nano 500AVs in and they connected immediately despite being a different brand and speed. Of course they must run at 200AV speeds because of the older ones on the network, but that's OK with me until I upgrade them. My house is old with several extensions and a mix of BX (metal sheathed) and Romex (vinyl sheathed) wiring. The TPLink host is plugged into BX in the original 1st floor. One of these adapters is plugged into Romex in an extension at the other end of the 1st floor, and connected to a laptop. The 2nd adapter is plugged into Romex on the 2nd floor, and connected to an Xbox that's being used as a home theater PC (HTPC) extender. Remarkably I'm getting excellent connections and speeds from both! My first powerline adapters were TPLink 200AV full size and both died after two years. The nano TPlinks are not quite 2 years old yet, so will see. This is my first installation of Trendnet adapters. They get very hot, so I worry they will not last long. I tried to plug them into a well ventilated area. Hope they last. So far so good!
This item is just what I expected to resolve the issue with my network without installing cables. Now I have connection point in my basement with no effort. I do recommend this great product!
These are outstanding. I have slow internet speeds because my modem is downstairs and most of the things i use internet for like the roku & ps3 are upstairs. I set these up and my Netflix no longer gets frozen while opening. All my things work better including Hulu. The only thing i dont like us having to set them up with a installation disc.
The Trend net compact PowerLine AV adaptor has a speed of up to 500mbps. It is energy efficient . The kit comes with a diagnostic LED, sync/Reset button, ethernet port and a power prong. This product is used to extend Internet access in a home network. It also comes with a user friendly guide, 2 network cables and 2 adaptors . It extends a home network by using a convenient outlet. It makes the network available in areas where a wireless network can't reach for any number of reasons. My husband is very pleased with it.
The compact size, ease of installation, the pricing, and reliability earn this product a solid 5 stars from me which is rare. If you are a gamer especially, it is a must-have to get off WiFi when your router is too far from your console, or PC to be hardwired directly.
Got this to connect a Roku player that was located where the wireless signal was not strong. Not the latest technology (that would be HomePlug AV2) but thought it would be sufficient for my need (broadband download rate of 15 Mbps). Got it working right away after plugging them to wall outlets. So far all as expected. What I did not expect was that it also worked when I pjugged it into a surge protector power strip. That is against the manufacturer's suggestion but it saved me from having to 20 feet ethernet cable. Running the utility software that comes with it, saw 55 mbps. Might get better performace directly connected to wall outlet, but 55 mbps is (mre than) good enoguh for my purpose, so keeping it running plugged into power strip.
I was having problems with Netflix buffering more than it should. I did a wifi internet speed test on my t.v. and it would range from 1mbs to 9mbs. (my regular internet speed is around 55 to 60mbs) So, I decided to try this out in hopes of getting at least 20mbs. My first speed test was 38mbs and later I tried another that went to 52mbs. I am no longer getting any buffering and the picture comes in clearer. Set up was simple and only took a few minutes. It comes with everything you need for a first time set up. I am definitely going to buy another adapter to use for my wireless computer.
Very happy with product and working as described, without long wires running in house my devices have super internet speed.
Plug and play. The internet speed at the electrical outlets did not reduce much compared to the modem end.
You only get about 30% of your internet speed over these devices
