Troxel Brown Leather Sierra Helmet

I was looking for a helmet that was geared more toward Western riding. When I purchased this helmet I planned on making it into a western hat, are used no glue on the helmet it's self. Now all my Non-helmet riding friends are asking me where I got it.

This is my third Troxel Low Profile Sierra Helmet. I wore my first one out and purchased a replacement one last fall. Then I had a horseback accident 2 months ago where my horse fell on me while trail riding. I had various minor injuries but was happiest about protecting my head. I hit my head hard but was well protected with this helmet and had no resulting head injuries. It is also so comfortable that you do not mind having it on and is nicely ventilated for warmer months of riding. I highly recommend this helmet and of course purchased another one to replace the one with which I had the accident. Please wear your helmets while riding!

My granddaughter is an inexperienced rider and was recently thrown from a horse at a high rate of speed. Although she does not remember hitting her head and suffered no loss of consciousness, the Sierra helmet was internally completely destroyed by the impact. As a trauma nurse for many years, I know my beloved granddaughter is alive and well today without a brain injury because she was wearing this helmet in a well-fitting manner. I know it is the most expensive helmet Troxel offers, but how much is you or your loved-one's brain worth? I will be purchasing another one ASAP and never ride without it. Thank you Troxel!!

I just had an accident where a tree took me off my horse and my head hit a log on the ground while wearing my Troxel Sierra helmet. Although my friends heard a loud crack as my head hit the log, I did not feel a thing inside my helmet. No concussion! Thanks to Troxel for such an awesome product!

I have had this same helmet (but not in the low profile), for over 10 years and it always worked well for me. But I really love this new helmet! I bought it in brown, and it hides dirt really well, and is extremely comfortable - a nice, snug fit without being too tight. I also feel it is very stylish, and I think the price is wonderful. Bought it for trail riding and after 2 hours in the saddle, it still feels cool and comfortable.

I purchased this Troxel Sierra Helmet in black, the same size as the brown one I bought last year. The fit is slightly different - more narrow on the black one, which made it too small/uncomfortable for me. I also noticed that the clasp was the old snap style. Disappointing as it was on sale at a good price and I really wanted a second helmet in black. Was this an older model? I'm still giving it high ratings as I love my brown one which is sharp looking, very comfortable, cool in the summer and quite durable.

I bought this for trail riding but have been using is happily for jumping. The light tan color is nice for summer heat. It's well ventilated and the foam inserts are adjustable to fit. Only criticism is that the inserts are not particularly secure. They don't fall out or anything, and they are fine when you have the helmet on, but they are sort of loose. It would be nice to have a bit firmer connection. Definitely NOT a deal breaker, I really like this helmet.

I recently started riding western after decades of riding hunters, and I didn't like the way my English helmet looked with my western tack. I saw this helmet on the TV show, Horse Master with Julie Goodnight, and I really liked the way it looked on the western riders. It's even better in person! I purchased a medium, and it was easy to adjust to fit snugly. I bought the helmet in brown, and I like the color a lot. It is very comfortable, and it doesn't feel like I have a huge head when I wear it like some of my other helmets do. It has a lot of vents, so it's fairly cool. I even forgot that I had it on, and that's saying a lot when you ride in the Texas heat! If you ride western and you are thinking about buying a helmet, I would recommend this one. The only drawback is the buckle for the chin strap since it slides together to snap. It's hard to fasten at first when it is on your head, but it does stay buckled well. The manual cautions against leaving the helmet in a car on a hot day since it can be damaged if exposed to temperatures over 130 degrees.

I purchased this helmet a couple weeks ago. I have used it for a couple lessons and a trail ride. It is surprisingly comfortable and has great ventilation.

I purchased this helmet (to wear while barrel racing) awhile ago because I absolutely LOVE the look of it, and liked that it was different from other "plastic-looking" helmets I've tried. However, when I received the helmet and put it on, it didn't look "low profile" at all, and actually felt pretty top heavy. (I wear a large, so my big head may have been the case, lol. I've seen other riders wear it without the egg-head look.) I figured I might get used to it, but after giving me mild whiplash when I wore it to run in, I ultimately sent it back. This particular helmet is marketed more toward trail riding for a reason, because although it is durable and nice-looking, it just didn't feel "made" for the quickness of speed events.
