Good value for good quality chainsaw

Stephen March 21, 2026

Purchased Troy Built for a dependable brand. Delivered quickly, starts easy, and cuts great. I would like if it had a bit more displacement for more power.

Nice Saw!

Kcal January 3, 2025

Great saw works amazing for the price it makes it easy on the wallet, Cut up 35ft cedar with a 40inch diameter trunk pushed it to the limit and it performed well.

This is an okay chain saw if you treat it with care. My chain is already beginning to dull after approximately 100 cuts and will need to be sharpened soon. Additionally the literature never tells you to use ethanol free gas. Ethanol is known to destroy 2-cycle engines long before their time is due for a rebuild. Another thing no one ever tells you is that a 25/1 mix increases the life of the engine by 2 times without any noticeable loss of power. My take; this is an expensive cheap tool built with too much plastic but if you are a weekend warrior it should be fine. Simply treat it well and it works just fine. Always remember log cutting is dangerous work and skills don't come overnight.

Plenty of Power for the Big Trees

Snowycreek49 October 2, 2026

Power line crew needed to take down a 22" maple, several 12" oak branches and a 16" ash. The maple was impossible to split and needed 3 full length cuts to get 6 pieces of firewood. My 14" Stihl, the 14" Homlite and the 14" Greeworks 40v used alternately were still overheating. Well,I. needed help! [FYI; even a $4,000 woodpliter could not have split this maple.] My search lead me to this Troy-Bilt with a 20 inch bar, the Oregon saw chain and the MTD engine. Yes, it is a bit heavy, but actually lighter than most 20" saws. The engine starts easily, at least easier than I expected for the size. The factory setting for idle is perfect. A review said it doesn't start when hot - that is correct. However, I find that one tank of gas is sufficient effort to take a break for myself and the saw, especially in maple and oak! I am very familiar with these MTD engines, and because the idle is perfect, I hesitate in adjusting the carburetor. The cost was less than half of the cost of popular saw brands for 20" saws. Delivery especially fast - and I really did need the saw. I will add that this saw is for serious cutting and that the overall quality is equal to any saw brand available today, as well as the big name saws of ages past.
