Troy-Bilt TB146 EC 29cc 4-Cycle Cultivator with JumpStart Technology

Last summer I was sick a lot so my garden ended up being a garden of weeds and would take a lot of time to clear them out for fall planting. I wanted a cultivator, looked online and the store and picked one that I knew would do the job. I absolutely love it, what would have taken me hours to do I was able to get all the weeds taken care of in an hour. This cultivator is a monster and is awesome for what I need it for.

I bought my first Troy-bilt cultivator over 10 years ago and it served me well. This new cultivator can be started with the jump start that I really like. This is a cultivator and not a tiller, remember that. 10 pumps of the bulb or until the bubbles in the clear fuel line disappear. If you pull start rope be gentle and don't yank the cord to the end. Check the oil before use and don't be afraid to change the oil often. I use NON-ETHANOL GAS IN ALL MY OUTDOOR EQUIPMENT.

Powerful and small enough for the tight spaces in my small garden patch. Had it for many years now. Just be sure to use very FRESH gas, otherwise doesn't want to start. And be sure to use fuel stabilizer prior to winter, otherwise the stale gas will leave varnish on the carburetor and ruin it.

I am a 76 year old person and wanted very much to grow a full garden. However, I felt my back could could not physically contend with the soil preparation and weed control involved with such an undertaking. Thanks to my Troy-Bilt Cultivator, I have bought this project to fuition and am enjoying one of the best gardens I have had in years without the physical stress. The machine has performed as advertised.

New out of the box, pulled starter cord twice and it started. Easily handled my weeding chores without breaking a sweat. No mixing gas and oil, I love it. Less than 15% ethanol in gas is OK. Ethanol ate my last cultivator. What's to not like. Would recommend this cultivator to anyone.

I got 2 years ago, worked good for almost 2 times, after that stopped working, no spark, changed the spark plug, still no spark, it was a bad coil, replaced the coil it worked fine. After using it for 4 times, then it starts for seconds and dies off. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Purchased at Lowes. I use the pull start and it is hard to start if you do not follow the starting procedure to the letter and even then takes several pulls. When it is running it works great. Mine will not run once the tank gets to 1/2 or less in fuel. Mine constantly leaks oil/fuel out of the breather and has since day 1. I rebuild garden tractors as a hobby so I am very mechanically inclined and I have had to continuously work on this thing since new to get it to run. I am very disappointed as I expected the same quality as my Pony tiller which has had only basic maintenance since 1989 and is still going.

Ok just got this cultivator, it replaced a Poulan Pro 31CC 2 Cycle. First impressions are good. Came out of the box assembled only had to install the Wheels and open the handles. Direction are pretty straight forward more or less. I took there word for it and put all the oil supplied in. I have also purchased the Electric starter so after the motor tuned over a few time it fired off and ran. There is a reference to a Choke lever I have not found this so far or needed it. There is a Red Lever for Cold weather starting since I'm above 40 degrees here I didn't fool with it. I ran the cultivator for an hour of so tilling up a row preparing it for spring planting. Seems to be pretty powerful for a 4 stroke. Since this on has 2 more tines width giving me a 4" wider pathway I'm happy wit the power of this unit. So two weeks later or so I had it out again yesterday Sunday. Checked to Oil level added a squirt of 30 HD oil which cause it to run out on the ground. This is good used the electric starter to start it again so no problems starting Runs good. I proceed to till up he edges of my garden this is some hard packed ground. Not new ground but still tough tilling. I gave it a good work out of about 3 hours. Went though 2 full tanks of gas. I have only had to restart manual for fueling no problems started on the first pull. I'm happy with this unit so far, Its seems to work me harder than the 2 cycle did but not much and I'm cutting almost 4" more soil width. It runs much quitter than a 2 cycle and keep running. I will revisit this review in a year or so unless I have problem to report

The tiller worked fine the first year. The second year it would not start, after fuel system repair it worked. The third year it started but would not continue to run. Carburetor replaced. started but still would not continue to run. This is the second Troy Bilt item I have owned. When the string trimmer quit after the first year I should not have bought the tiller. I am a homeowner and do not do outside work. I will not buy Troy Bilt again!

We have double dug beds so I just needed this for some light cultivating. I used it a couple of times and it seemed alright so I covered it up until I was ready to get some beds ready for the fall garden. I got it out and went to start it and the pull cord was still rewinding but it was not connected to the motor at all. At least it's still under warranty.
