This solved the question of kayak transport while pulling my travel trailer. Assembly of the rack was straightforward and honestly pretty easy…it took me about an hour from beginning to end. Looks great when coupled with the BAK Revolver X4ts with easy access to my bed when the rack/kayaks are installed. I use the Rhino rack nautic stack s520 for the kayaks. I haul 3 kayaks with this setup but it will fit four. Great overall setup and I'm very pleased with my purchase.
I purchased the rack after looking at many options. I have a backflip with t-slots mounts, and needed a quick on/off rack. I found the rack to be high quality for a fair price. I can see how adding cross braces would increase the strength as torquing the towers forward or back will currently put a lot of stress on t-slots. So if you plan a heavy load, or one that shifts its weight, I recommend the tie togethers.
Rack looks great and is very well made. The only drawback is that there is no way to use locking nuts on the T-bolts to secure the uprights and rack to the rail…the space only allows for the 5/16” cap nuts and nothing a bit larger like a locking nut which is a bit larger in diameter.
I'd give it 5 stars but the studs that slide into the tee slots (for a Leer Jackrabbit cover) were a few thousands too big and had to be ground down to fit. Luckily I have a bench grinder. Once that was done install was super easy. They need to have some location marks on the top rails to make centering easier and add some tie down features to the posts as well.
The racks are great. The only thing is that I thought the height adjustment would be tool free so I could adjust on the fly but instead it is two nuts and bolts per upright so definitely not a quick adjust. Not the end of the world but would have been a nice feature. Also they have real truck stickers instead of elevate stickers like in pic. Again minor but I thought elevate stickers looked cooler. In the end the racks are solid and awesome.
Unfortunately, this didn't turn out as advertised. After adding the rails to my existing backflip MX 4 bed cover it leaves a quarter to half inch gap at the tailgate. Now anybody can reach their fingers in underneath the last section and force it up or even use a coat hanger to release the bed cover to get in… Not a good design leaving a gap.
I picked the Elevate rack because of the price point/sturdiness. I received the rack and went to install it and realized I needed more to complete installation. Going back and reading the fine print, I was going to need a TS rail. I called customer support and found out that the rack will not fit any truck without this rail. A customer should not be able to close out the order without the true cost of the rack system on full display. Moving forward after ordering and receiving the TS rail. Not included was the necessary hardware it would take to attach rail to bed of truck. Disappointing to say the least after customer support assured me that this last order was what was needed to complete installation. I fabricated some hardware myself. Rack seems to be well made and the customer service was very nice. Real Truck needs to R&D a complete system and show the true cost of the rack system.
Crossbars are too wide to fit standard accessory mount hardwar. No adaptor was provide and it appears none are available for purchase. Mounting to these crossbars may not be possible for some accessories. Also, mounting hardware for the rack itself did not fit t-slots of other Realtruck accessory (ReTrax cover with T-slots). We had to modify it to make a secure fit. I do not recommend this rack! It's stordy but does not function well.
This product whistles when you drive. The instructions even mention the whistle. The rack comes with a piece of rubber to go in the track to stop the whistle however you cannot use any tie down accessories then and they offer no option to use the accessories and prevent whistling.
I would really like to review the rack I have still sitting in my garage unboxed but I can't. I ordered a tonneau cover at the same time as my rack but haven't received it yet. The cover has the rails on it to install the rack, so there's the problem. Not at all impressed with the shipping from your company.
