Picked up last year's return and made new return simple. Since nothing changed it only took a few minutes and I was printing and e-file-ing the return.
I used turbotax for many many years. I give my full confidence to the program. This program designed for people they are honest and just need help to finish their tax return.
Been using TT since 2002, Deluxe until 2 years ago when I retired, now Basic does it for me. Pretty complicated returns back when I was working (W-2 + Self Employed + 1099s, Home-owner, 401K, etc.), and TT Deluxe guided me through the IRS nightmare year after year (common English explanations for nuance legalese). Basic does it for me well now. Never audited - all records on my computer - saved me thousands of $$ in prep fees compared to what I was paying before I started using TT. E-File for the past several years. Tax filing is always snakey but TT helps take the bite out of it . Think I'll do it again next year too...
I have used Turbo Tax since they bought out Parson's Personal Tax Edge, somewhere around 20+ years ago. I have never needed more than the basic version, despite having some investments. The auto import feature saves 2/3 of the time and takes tons of guess work out of Roll Over IRA trades. I will continue to use it as long as I have the ability to do my own tax.
I've always used Turbotax online; it's simple and easy enough to understand considering I don't have many tax situations or special forms. I was annoyed this year with the payment required for each step. Pay for the software download, pay for the state download, pay to file them together and then again for deduction from refund rather than charge my card. Just annoying to get so far into it and realize I'm ~$160.00 in.
I purchased turbo tax only to find out it did not include state so I had to pay an extra $40 then when I went to efile, I was charged another $25 to file my state taxes. It asked if I wanted to enter the confirmation number to show that I had already purchased the state form but it would never provide a place to enter the confirmation #. Very Shady. The amount I spent, I could have spent on a CPA and not had to do all the work myself.
TurboTax is not a bad service, it's very user friendly and has many step-by-step tools to help you get the most back out of your tax returns. However, when it comes to State tax filing, you should expect to pay upwards of at least $75 in additional fees. They will charge you $50 per state you file for, as well as an additional $25 to e-file for that state. If you wish to deduct the e-file charge from your Federal Return, that will be an additional $40. I am less than impressed with all the additional fees they add on to the already fairly expensive product they offer. Overall TurboTax is very easy to use, but their promise to get you back more out of your tax returns falls short due that money going into their additional fees. Next year I will definitely be seeking out other filing options to get back even more of my tax returns without having to spend it on extra services.
This was a virus. All it did was show millions of letters. Wasn't able to use it no matter what I tried.
I filed late...my bad When it came time to e-file, TT advised I was too late and had to mail in return. Hit continue, and it asked me if I wished to e-file and took me all the way through and gathered my debit card info...your bad!
Don't get me wrong. TurboTax will do your taxes, and it will make it easier than to would be if you haven't ever done them yourself. But when the product tells me that I should upgrade to Deluxe because the Basic version doesn't include itemized deductibles, I get irritated. That's a basic function. When it turns out that Deluxe wouldn't have helped me anyway, I get straight irate. I'll never buy TurboTax again.
