Just finished an extensive shootout with the TAC700 and TAC1100 mics, and I am impressed!!

They were up against a C414B-ULS, TLM107, TLM102, U47fet Clone, SM57, MXL144 and MXL4000 (all in cardioid). I was hopeful that the TAC700 would hold it's own, and, sure enough, it did. I found that it performed right in the middle of the pack- quiet, smooth and un-hyped. Some of the mics sounded brighter or more "modern," yet this one was not dark, veiled, or beefy like a saturating transformer mic. There is definitely a rounded, almost compressed sound, while it is accurate and flat. Reminds me a little of an old TLM193 where it would take EQ very well and capture acoustic sources well, but some people might say this is boring (in a good way). Handles sibilance well, and doesn't have the harsh top end of many mics.

The compact size of these is amazing, and the stereo pair I bought are going to live in my car to be ready for on-the-fly recording opportunities (like visiting a church piano performance). Incredible bang-for-buck at the price.

-Cheers
