Typhoon Matches

Allow match to fully light the wood even in enclosed spaces for best results. Keep the match near the bottom of the fire you're lighting, but don't smother it even though the chemical flame is powerful, it can smother the match or other fire materials if the match doesn't continue to have air around it. The chemical flame can heat and start to catch other materials on fire, but again, make sure you don't smother the match. Keep these in a waterproof can like a little plastic or metal weatherproof canister. These are better than the expensive matches at some outdoor outlets, so I recommend buying these separately and buying a canister separately, instead of the pre-packaged canisters with unknown brand matches. Replace these in your kit every 2 years at maximum, as they may start to degrade in storage, Since they are an emergency item, check them before heading out on the trail.

I love the size and reliablity of these matches. These matches are easy for me to use as a elderly person. I happen to live in an area where we loose power on the regular. In those times it is a necessity I can find my matches in times of darkness. These fit the bill for my needs, not only easy of use but the give me an extra layer of safety

Great matches. Only improvement would be make them strike anywhere, so the can be use without a striker and any situation/condition.

In Zippo's 30 pack of four inch waterproof and windproof matches, you will find three striking pads. This is great to have in your emergency survival supplies. I will keep them in the hurricane supplies for unforeseen circumstances; for example, power outages. I could not find the expected shelf life of the matches but, I believe they would be stable for a very long time. Once ignited the match will burn for thirty seconds. Match will relight so, please use care by placing it in a fire proof area until cool. Also, I received the Zippo Typhoon Matches from the Spark Reviewer Program without any cost to me!

These Zippo Typhoon Matches are the mother of all matches! What a match! They come in a very well packaged plastic box, with a hinge type lid that interlocks in place (great idea). Inside the box is the 30 mega matches and two more strike plates in a little Ziploc bag. The main striker is on the outside of the box. These matches are big, about 4 and ¼ inches long. The stick is also heavy duty and thick. To strike the match you just barely scratch the striker and it lights. It burns a good hot flame for about 30 seconds, seems longer. The stick is adequate to keep you from burning your fingers, and we tried over and over to blow it out and it would not stop. It goes pretty flameless and then starts back up on its own, like candles that don't go out. It burned all the way to the end with us trying to put it out. I would most definitely recommend them to campers and outdoors folks. These are perfect. They would also work for those who have a fire pit outdoors, and for grills that are hard to light. But for camping I think these are a must. We plan on getting more for gifts for our outdoors grown kids, and for other family that camp out. What a great item. Thrilled with this one, and is my husband.

I got these matches for the purpose of lighting my wood burning fireplace. I thought they would do better than the average stick match I was using. I was disappointed. Here is why: The matches come in a plastic package that is securely sealed. It is so secure that you almost need tools to open it. After getting into the matches, I struck one and timed the burn. It lasted about 15 seconds and burned like a fast sparkler without out the sparks. When it got down to the wood stem, the flame went out unlike a regular wooden match that has the wood stem continue to burn which can extend the burn time to one or two minutes. The flame from these matches is strictly a chemical burn and not a wood burn. This means you have to have ready some highly flammable kindling material to quickly transfer the flame to. The fact that the wooden stem of the match would not hold the flame from the head leads me to be highly skeptical of whether or not it would easily transfer to other small wood pieces in the short time of the initial burn. I don't think so. As far as the match itself igniting in harsh conditions, I believe they will work well. If you wanted to light a fuse or other chemical burn process in harsh weather, these matches would probably do well but, I don't believe they would do well for starting moist kindling wood for a camp fire. The price of these matches is also relatively high in comparison to others on the market.
