Well I recently purchased the eight inch ferrous rod (my first purchase from uberleben) after researching top rated fire sticks to add to my quiver of fire fire making tools I was super impressed by how fast I had a flame going! I'm a primitive man and love busting a coal on my buffalo rib bow drill and with flint and steel most of the time but living in Colorado I appreciate This tool and I think it is now my favorite method!! I purchased our Son, Grandson and Grandson in law all original stoves and tinder kits for Christmas and I cant wait to see their faces in a few days! I told my wife she can buy me the new black model for me. I turned my bow making buddy back in AZ onto your website and his wife is ordering the same for him! They might be late but worth the wait!!! can't wait to send some Pics.............Jeff Glover, Fruita Co
Received my fire kit just in time for an off grid wheeling and camping trip. Not being able to transport wood across State lines, we forged for lumber trimmed a few branches into ribbons and we were set to start our fire. 3 strikes of the ferro rod (first two missed) and the twine was lit. I love the fire kit, high quality, very useful, and the tin is top notch.
These were Christmas presents for Jeff and Elder. Jeff's goal is to hike the Appalachian Trail when he retires and Elder's just getting ready for next year's myriad of potential disasters. They were both impressed although the box could be a bit taller. It's hard to fit everything in. Happy Holidays!
This is a great kit for everyday carry or to tuck away in a backpack or glove box in your car. The case and ranger band keeps everything tight and organized in this compact but effective case. The Extra Tindar Wick is a nice add. Gives great spark with every strike! Wish I had bought more. Next time they are available GRAB ONE...they go quick.
I have been an USAF Combat Engineer and Scout Master and I really appreciate the compact, durable design of your FIRE KIT 2.0. I bought one for myself and for my Eagle Scout son who loves to Camp and get off the beaten path but we have yet to try it out in a real world test, so I would like to respond after we use this amazingly well designed Fire Kit 2.0 on one of our adventures. I did open it up to discover how much you were able to squeeze into that box and I was having a hard time getting it all back in the tin to close the lid, well done. You're practically magicians! :D More to come! Sincerely, David Fulton Akin USAF RED HORSE Combat Engineer
Awesome and cool little kit, I am glad I jumped on this when it first become available! Great addition to the products i already own. It was so cool, that i purchased another for a friend. Glad i joined the list to get notified of all the new products and when they become available again!
Why did I buy two Firekits? Glad you asked. Recent experience taught me that the particular alloy of the Uberleben Fire Starter rods is superior. So I bought two big ones; a Fatty and a long Hex. When the new Firestarter rods got here and I inspected and tested them, I was astonished by the performance and was driven to get more Uberleben gear. Prior experience taught me that opening the kind of overlapping, full-circumference, friction fit lids that most such kits use can be very difficult, and darn near impossible to open if the box or lid is dented. Especially with wet or numb, shivering hands. The Uberleben kit is not only ingeniously equipped with the very highest quality and mission correct components, it comes in a slide top box that will be a breeze to pry apart if the box is damaged before fire is badly needed. As a Christmas gift for my grandson, a Firekit was simply the perfect option. Could save his life some day. And while I was ordering, it seemed foolish to fail to buy another kit for myself. Thanks for offering this super fine quality gear
Best wick I've found! I started with the regular wick tin and 8in fire steel and then they hit me with the fire kit 2.0!? Everything all packed in a tin!? EDC!? What!!?? So I ordered 4 of them! 1 for me of course, 1 for my uncle, and 1 for my two good buddies. They got here in no time during the Christmas crazyness. I couldn't be happier with the service and personable nature of the staff. I will be ordering more from them in the future. Truly well built. Thanks guys! Blessings & Bliss, Ecclesiastes (Eric)
This pocket kit is a very good starter, and trainer, but it could be stepped up. Make the mag/Ferro rod an inch longer, plus put a complete hole near a tip to allow an attachment cord. Lengthen the stricker as well. Add a quarter-inch thickness to the dimension of the tin, and expand the length so all components can be placed inside without going diagonal, then leaving space for added tender. Make the container in a heavier guage metal or plastic.
Nice little stocking stuffer. Got one for me and one for my brother. The hemp rope catches within a couple stokes on the fire stick. For next holiday season, I would have preferred just the stick, striker, and rope/rope carrier in a better fitting container so the contents don't rattle around.
