We took our car in for an oil change and the shop quickly texted us photos of the engine bay showing damage to the heat shield, a hose, and some weatherstripping. All told $1,000 in damage done by, apparently, palm rats.
That was the first time that I had experienced rodent damage, and I was determined not to experience it again. So I bought these repellent units and immediately placed one inside the engine bay. Because it was difficult finding a spot to place it in the engine bay I ended up placing magnets on the back of one unit, and then placing it on the underside of the hood. So far it has stayed put.
I use the 2nd setting (lights, ultrasonic impulses and regular sound) and so far I haven't had a repeat performance by the rodents.
I cannot testify that this unit is preventing another infestation, but I haven't had any more damage since installing it, so it certainly may be doing a great job.
