It does what it was bought for
The Uniden BCD996P2 is a digital radio capable covering many systems. I live in a highly simulcast area where a SDS100 or SDS200 work best. But for the price of $335 at the time it was hard to pass up. Plus the speaker that came with it works well. This is not a Home Patrol style scanner and there is a learning curve to programming, working with Freescan, Butel, or Proscan software, you can learn to program this scanner using Radio Reference.

Order came earlier than expected. Scanner and speaker were very well packed. First thing I noticed was how solid the scanner is. I'm waiting for my discone antenna so I'm using the one that came with. I hooked that up, plugged it in and started in on the menu features. You can program directly from the scanner but I found using dedicated software is so much better. Make sure to register it if you buy one and there are other upgrades that you might benefit from depending on your location. Good luck!

Great Scanner! Digital!
Works great, great reception, picks up scanner traffic up to 125 miles away, digital trunking also. Would recommend. Easy setup, no batteries, can be installed in a vehicle (check state laws) and its small form fact.
