The programing is rather easy once you understand the process. You will need to purchase an adapter if you plan to program with a computer, but I was able to manually enter my frequencies. There are plenty of YouTube videos and website for reference.

I am REALLY ,enjoying this scanner! My interest in scanner listening is casual, and limited to conventional sysyems (such as aircraft). Even though no printed manual is included (it only comes with a CD-ROM manual), I found an easier-to-read one online. I had no difficulty at all setting it up and programming the many frequencies I have in it. I love the many customizable settings it has, like key beep on/off, adjustable backlight, and adjustable contrast. I also love that the step and mode defaults can be changed from what the factory defaults are. And that frequencies that are outside the step default can be programmed. This build quality is excellent.

I don't know why it got bad reviews. It is my first scanner and I was able to program it manually in 30 minutes after opening it. You don't need a computer to program it. It came well packaged and everything was there. Having never dealt with scanners before, I found it extremely easy to program. If your not sure about something, there are a lot of YouTube videos on this particular scanner. If your looking for a. Scanner, I highly recommend you buy this one. You'll be glad you did.

Overall, this is a very good scanner. It is not a simple device like the ones from a long time ago - there is a definite learning curve. One of the reasons that it lost a star is that the user manual is terrible. Be prepared to look online for better sources of documentation. The other reason for losing a star is the included cable for connecting to a computer. This is 2018, not 1998, the vast majority of computers do not have db-9 serial ports. Most people who want to use the feature will have to get a USB to serial adapter. One other thing to note, when it is first powered on, the "Bear Tracker Alert" tone may be set to the highest volume, which is not controlled by the volume knob. Be prepared to be startled. Search youtube for "BCT15X Start Up" for info on fixing this.

very difficult to program no USB cable just a serial cable

This is the worst piece of crap I ever seen for $200. You can shove it no directions no nothing. It says it's in Alabama. I'm in New York State can't get it out of Alabama. This is the worst piece of crap I ever seen return my money I will not be ordering from here anymore.

Need COMPUTER TO PROGRAMIT

this thing doesnt have a manual and the dvd that comes along with it does not work on any of my computers,dvd or ps system. it makes a horrible noise and i cant shut it off and i cant get the channels to work
