It works perfectly for what I need . Easy enough to follow.
Exactly what we wanted and came quicker than we thought.
I now have a warm work shop.. easy to put together.. Works like a champ Added some fire brick in the bottom and put a fan behind it and we have a $200.00 forced air heater.. I also purchased the 2 barrel kit in order to get more heat out of the system
I researched the various Barrel Stove Kits available in the marketplace and found the Vozlzang brand to be the most recommended on forums relating to wood burning barrel stoves. After decideing that the Volzelzang was the highest quality name brand, I started searching for the best price. Northern had everyone beat on price. This kit comes with very easy to follow instructions for assembly and installation. They even show you exactly how to vent the stove, and they do it with illustrations. I installed this unit in my Pole Barn workshop and found that unless I just built a small fire the unit would heat me out of the shop which is 30' X 40'. You don't need to load these barrel stoves with the same amount of wood you would use in a fireplace. Start small and build your way up. I also have a circulating fan behind my unit which gets the heat all through the shop.
Barrel stoves like this work just fine in an outdoor shed or barn with a dirt floor, with nothing flammable underneath or around them, with plenty of space between the walls and the ceiling of a building. These stoves can get rippingly hot, and without adequate heat protection underneath and all around such a stove these stoves could easily light a house on fire. Picture a floor catching on fire, for instance. Yeah, these kinds of stoves can do just that. These stoves ARE NOT for amateur wood burners. Yes, be careful, be very, very careful!
An easy install if you have the proper tools. I had to leave the door open a little because it wouldn't draft very well when starting a fire. After I have a good fire started it drafts well and takes about 30 minutes to warm my 20 x 20 garage in 40 degree weather.
I put together the two drum heater for my shop and it works great. Assembling the stove pipes to the outside of the shop took a while but once completed, the heater puts out tremendous heat. Get a buddy to help when stacking the drums for mounting them together. It's kind of awkward. I used some fire bricks on the bottom. Other long-time users of this style barrel heater said this will help keep the drums from burning out early.
The barrel stove works great if you leave the small air vent plug out of the bottom of the barrel to allow more combustion air in. The screw heads provided with the kit strip easily, but this might be intentional to prevent over tightening and cracking the cast iron. I highly recommend the second barrel kit.
it's sounds like in the ad that there is everything including the barrel it shows the picture and talks like its included other wise never would of purchased
I should have read the reviews. I noticed someone else had the same problem. Although I know that Northern Tools are not known for top quality products I trusted them for Quality consistency. i built a wood burner about 6 years ago and it worked great. The barrel kit was perfect. This year when getting it ready for winter I noticed the door had cracked. I went to Northern tools and bought another one. The first thing I noticed was the door quality was not as good as the first. Next the bolt screws on the new one did not line up with the old one. The alan head bolts on the first one which, would tighten down real good had been replaced with phillip head bolts that would round out. For me the whole thing was worthless. I know Northern Tools didn't make it but as I said before I did trust them for consistency. It made me so mad that I won't be buying anything from Northern Tools again.
