Universal rack means install may/may not go smoothly. purchased this inexpensive rack for a friend's 700CX38 rei novara corsa ladies bike. she wanted to support a tote with farmer's mkt veg so supporting that tote weight steel rack was a must in my opin. rack is a steal at the price. photos i took show i had to use the rear fender mount hole with the parts included. i did try using the rack stays and there was an issue. did end up using some #8 machine screws/nuts. walmart sells a machine screw assortment and that should handle any issue that emerges. note i did end up turning the 45 degree angle attachment upside down if you will. it worked better. but, that's why this call this a universal rack. note i do have a bicycle work stand, good selection of tools, lighting, and patience. this is not a rush job. had to bend the bracket 25 degrees with my vise to perfect fit on fender attachment hole. see photo. if you are unsure of your bike mechanic skills enlist a friend. 4 hands are helpful and another set of eyes to perhaps see a more opportune method of attachment. do not tighten screws/nuts/nylon lock nuts (provided) until all adjustments made and you are pleased. also, drag out a level and be certain your new rack is level. all in all, walmart's vendor offers a great product with this rack at a rock bottom price. summing up: i'm 71 and had a good time making a friend's bike more utility friendly. project was fun.
Better then expected. Very solid construction. Took an hour to install it to meet my expectation. Great deal for the money.
This is a very good rack for the price although it is made out of steel and a little heavy still a good a good rack for your money comes with plenty of hardware and I would recommend it to anybody
The only complaint I have about the rack is that the hex bolts that came with it seemed deformed. I finally got enough grip to turn them in the nuts though. That rack is never coming off the bike, for sure. It looks good, and cost a lot less than anything at the bike store for sure.
The quality of the rack was better than I thought. My bicycle has rear disc brakes so I had to purchase a longer screw from the hardware store to mount overtop the disc brake assembly. But once I was finished I was happy with the results.
The Ventura Bike rack is solid steel and not very heavy. It is strong. It didn't come with any bolts, just some nuts. I mounted this unit on a 27" bike without fenders. It would also work well on a 26" bike. I used four 1/4"-20 bolts x 1/2" long and 1/2"-20 nuts to mount the legs to the rack. I used two !/4" -20 bolts x 3/4" long and 1/4"-20 nuts to mount the pre-drilled holes in the bottom of the leg attachments to the pre-drilled holes in the bike down by the wheels. I enlarged the holes on one side only of the rod attachment hardware so that the seat mounting post bolt of the bike could be used with these pieces to anchor the front of the rack to the bike. I used a small round file to do this. I had to bend these pieces to get a perfect fit. I would recommend this rack, if you are able to have access to some basic tools, a vise, and have some mechanical ability.
Well, I got it on the bike and it is sturdy enough, but it took hours and my own hardware. It cost half of what REI and even Nashbar charged however, so I'm okay with the whole thing. No hex key given either, but if you can deal, this is a deal.
If you're not handy, don't buy this rack! It came in a bag with NO instructions whatsoever! No pics, nothing! When I finally figured out where everything belonged, I discovered that there weren't enough screws--I had to supplement with my own! It will not fit a bike with disc brakes.
This item comes with only the most rudimentary instructions and no hardware for mounting the assembled product to your bicycle. It is moderately difficult to put together and requires multiple fittings to your bike frame to get it properly adjusted. You almost need two people to get it on your bike. On the plus side it does seem to be made of quality materials with a perfectly good fit and finish and it is quite reasonably priced. Still, there are better alternatives out there.
The instructions for outing it together were not clear. It was difficult to assemble and I am gonna have to buy a different rack. I don't recommend this. The screws were also cheap, they do not stay on.
