Chinesium at it's finest! Hoping seller resolves.

Jason September 14, 2021

Like the vise, perfect size for a bench top mini-mill (3" jaws). Knew this wasn't a Kurt going in and there was likely going to be work to make it as close to perfect as can practically be done. Having said that, there are some issues: Finish: As others have mentioned, it is already coming off right out of the box. The fix: Wire brush, sand blast (cover those ground surfaces!) or do whatever you need to do to remove the bad coating, clean that bare metal and repaint. No biggie. You wanted it to match your mill anyway didn't you? Damage: Sliding portion of the vise took some abuse during shipping. The handle and accessories are loosely bundled in some plastic wrap and the whole works dumped into a box with albino cheese puffs for packing (not the round ones, the long ones). They are woefully in adequate. There are several chips in the slide and dents with raised portions. The fix: File or stone the raised portions and edges of the chips to ensure your level across the top. No biggie. Alignment: When closed, the vise jaws are well over 1/16" off, left-to-right as well as off by .010-.015" height wise. The fix: There appears to be adjustment on the jaws as well as the rear jaw holder (soft-faced mallet, lead or hard plastic will suffice) to align the jaws left-to-right. The height can most likely be resolved by loosening the jaw screws and re-aligning them to one another. Easy peasy. Graduations on the base: It is NOT graduated from 0-360 degrees. It is graduated from 0-90 degrees and then from that 90 back to 0, then to another 90 and then back to the original 0. Sweet, right angles! But if your like me and can barely remember fractions, this might be a source of contention. To much thinking involved. The fix: marry someone smarter than you to do the maths for you. Problem solved. The BIG-E: On the vise I received, the rotation pin that is in the center of the base that correspondingly mates to the hole in the bottom of the vise to allow it to swivel on that lovely 0-90-0-90 base (all in alignment like) was too short. Either it was not long enough or not pressed far enough into the base and did not interface with the vise. This meant there was no swivel from a standard point, i.e. center. In fact it was so short that the vise could move in some directions nearly an inch before the skirt on the vise caught the top of the pin. No bueno. The bolts that are to hold the base and vise to one another would stop the movement described above but without a standard reference point that the vise could swivel around, you would never maintain distance from center. Bad. Very bad. The fix: Press the pin further into the base (from bottom to top) or make a new pin and do the same. Just remember to support the base as close to the pin as possible before you put any pressure on it. Cast ain't like cold-rolled. Overall it "could" be a great addition to your lair for world domination. Just plan on tearing down, cleaning it, painting it and showing it some TLC.
