Viagrow Coco Coir 5KG (1 Pack, Micro Charge), Coconut Coir Pith

As a first time user of Viagrow Coconut Coir with Earth Worm Castings, I am very impressed. Coir comes in brick form with a separate 1 lb. bag of earth worm castings (an added plus since coir does not have much in the way of nutrients). The small package makes a HUGE amount of coir and is much easier to deal with than a heavy bag of peat. I placed the entire block of coco coir in an 18 gal.. storage bin with lid, added 9 gallons of warm water, and allowed it to hydrate overnight. Since I did not plan on using the entire amount of coir at once, the bin with lid was perfect for storage purposes. The next day with a garden trowel, I fluffed up and cultivated until broken down into fine pieces. At this point it could be used as is or mixed with other potting medium such as potting soil. Part of the coir I mixed in a raised bed to amend rock hard clay soil. I added one part coir to two parts soil. This ratio helped loosen the clay soil with the goal being improved drainage, root development, water and nutrient retention. This is also a great product for a clematis mixed at a 30% coir, 70% potting soil ratio. I have never thought of using coconut shell shreds for soil, but this is brilliant! Clean, no offensive smell, convenient, environmentally friendly, easy to use, and earth worm castings included for added nutrients. In my opinion, Viagrow Coconut Coir Brick with Earth Worm Castings is an outstanding product worth a try.

I absolutely love this stuff. I mix it in my wheelbarrow. I add half hot water at first. Then once it starts to come apart i add tap water. Its very easy to work with. I use it in all my starter pots. The castings are new to me entirely. I add about a tablespoon worth to each of my pots. It seems to of worked real nice.

Needles to say, my garden absolutely LOVES this new COCONUT COIR PREMIUM SOILLESS MEDIA & PREMIUM EARTHWORM CASTINGS. My garden was ONLY DOING “SO~SO,” until I added some COCONUT COIR and EARTHWORM CASTINGS to the soil, then, my plants began EXPLODING WITH GROWTH and DARK GREEN COLOR!!! These 2 products were the “MAGIC” that my garden needed!!!!

I got the Viagrow 11 pound coco brick with earth worm castings about 4 days ago. Today I used a wide screw driver and hammer to cut off about a 1 inch flake. I put it in a 5 gallon bucket and filled it with water. About an hour later the bucket was almost full , I drained the bucket of the excess water and was left with about 2/3's of a bucket of dampened coco coir. I put a small hand full of the worm castings. I only used a small portion of the coco coir because it's so late in the season and only needed a couple of gallons to repot my indoor plants. I'll put the unused coir in an airtight bag to save it until next year. This is the 2nd time I used this product, the one I bought at the beginning of the season was mixed with compost and used for planting my little vegetable seedlings and I just harvested my first batch of tomatoes and snap peas.

Great quality soilless formula. This is my favorite brand for gardening. It's compact, so easy for winter storage or just for buying and transporting. You soak it in water and wait. Easy peasy. It's great for plants. Don't have to fret if I miss a day of watering here and there, during busy times. It retains moisture well. It also came with earthworm castings. Amazing extra.

This material is great but read the instructions before using it. I thought I just break it up and mix it with soil. That is not the way to use it..LoL. you're supposed to sock it in water which makes a lot more sense. I was trying to break it up dry by hand and it was a chore. All of my pictures are of how I did it, which I would definitely not recommend. After soaking it, the material was much easier to work with. I definitely recommend it, just read the directions first if you've never used this before.

Coco coir brick growing medium. I received a 11lb compressed brick that expands to 5x the the original size when you add the recommended amount of water to it. It looks a lot like peat moss after it expands and has similar qualities as well. It's easier to carry than a large bag and adding water is easy enough. I definitely recommend this for the carrying convenience and will buy more for my next garden projects. I received this product for free in exchange for a review.

This coconut coir brick and earthworm castings by Viagrow are absolutely the best growing medium and fertilizer combination for all my plants. The coconut coir is so easy to use- you simply soak it in water for about an hour or so and it expands and takes on a soil like texture, and then you can use it in its own or mix it with your potting soil to create a rich growing medium which holds more water. This coconut coir saved my plants during the heat wave and allowed them to thrive even then. Added to that, the Viagrow earthworm castings are the perfect organic fertilizer to make the soil rich with nutrients needed for my plants to produce. Adding these earthworm castings really helped my plants to grow and produce faster, and i cannot wait to see how much better my garden will perform this year due to this coconut coir and earthworm castings!

The coco coir comes as large dense block. Per the instructions we put 9 gallons of water on it and let it expand. I suggest doing this near where you will use it, as it gets quite heavy. We spread the worm castings first at the base of our tomato plants and then put the coco coir on top. It definitely feels like it will hold in moisture and it looks nice. Don't know results yet. Looking forward to finding out.

I like that such a small package expands into such a huge amount of product! I've struggled to keep soil in my raised bed where I grow strawberries and asparagus. The wind blows it out and dries it to a powdery dust. I'm hoping that mixing the coir into the soil will help keep the soil moist and in the box where it belongs. The worm castings will add another layer of nourishment to an otherwise base soil. Next year's growing season will be the test.
