Obviously, the worst part about flat top cooking is the cleanup. After 2 years, I'm ready to say this griddle cleans up fast and easy and every time. I would love a bigger and better placed grease trap but overall, this griddle is great. With other brands you go outside ready to cook and you find out you have work to do first because it's rusty or messy from the last cleaning that wasn't as good as you thought. I pull the cover off the Victory and all I have to do is turn it on, wipe it down, throw down the fat and start cooking.
Anyone who cooks on a flat top knows how they cook so there is no need to go there. Having had a popular brand of griddle previously, I am completely qualified to rate this one. Hands down, way better than the other brand. The absolute, drop dead reasons are maintenance and cleaning. The porcelain coating 100% saves time and money. I also like the built in shelves and the folding shelves. The tool holder on the side is great as well. I would recommend this griddle over the competition any day of the week.
I have to start this review with a few words about BBQ Guys. I will never buy another piece of outdoor equipment from any other retailer. BBQ Guys customer service is the best Ive ever seen. Had a little problem and they came through and blew my mind. These days good customer service is so hard to find and to me it's as important as the product when making a large buy. If you were wondering about a purchase of large equipment from an online retailer, worry no more. Now to the griddle. It's a great looking addition to my outdoor cooking space. I've made smash burgers, smash tacos, steaks, cheese steaks and fajitas. The griddle has done its job. I will say with this porcelain coated top I treat it different than a cast iron. A little more tender. With that being said clean up has been fairly easy. Takes a little effort but much less than my old cast iron top. Overall I'm very pleased so far with the griddle purchase and use it every week.
Have only had it for a little while. Has worked well so far. Had some initial build issues which I was surprised by since this is a new product and initial releases usually run into some challenges. BBQ Guys made getting the issues corrected easy. They were very easy to deal with and they took care of all the minor issues. Once I got the replacement pieces the overall quality is good and should last a while. The burners generate good heat. Been able to make breakfasts, lunch and dinners without any issues. The ceramic coating on the cooktop is thin and will probably wear out sooner than the base. I've had mine for four months and there is some putting spots already. I live in the northeast where it has higher moisture in the air which I'm sure contributes. Heat distribution is good. As with all grills & griddles you have to learn where it's hot and cold spots are. My unit has one hot corner and one cold area. Once I knew they were I can use them to my benefit when cooking. Since this winter has been mild so I've been able to cook through the winter. The top gets good and hot even in the cold. After using it for a while I have a few recommendations for others. DON'T buy the grill cover recommended with the unit. It doesn't work and will let water through which will ruin the cooktop with the amount of water sitting in it. I also cut a piece of plywood and put the over the cooktop before I cover it so the water can't well up in the cooktop area. The hose to the tank is too short to utilize the tank hanger so my tank sits on the base. Another item to not is the hose rubs on a rough edge cut out which I covered with heat resistant piece of hose so it wouldn't run on the metal over time. I cut a piece of hose and put it on the metal to protect the propane hose.
I bought this Griddle mainly because of the looks.. It just looks SHARP! Order process was a breeze! I got it on Preorder and was anxious for its arrival. Assembly was pretty simple, most of the griddle is completed all you have to do is put the cart together and attach the shelves and most of the cart is hinged and slides together. Cooking on it was a blast and the surface of the griddle was tough, I was using a metal spatula and left no scratches. Love this product so far!
Had a small problem with the griddle cooking area the top had dimples on it. Customer Service reached out to me. I spoke with Rita and she was able to take care of the issue. She is amazing. I would recommend bbquys for all my grilling equipment.
I have had this griddle for about a week now and have used it to cook quite a few things and feel I have enough info to review it. Let's start with the quality feel and build process. The packaging was done well. They have the screws etc nicely vac sealed and labeled on a cardboard backing, this is really nice. There were no spare parts so be mindful when assembling to not lose pieces. The metal used for the base is extremely thin in my opinion and there is a lot of wiggle once assembled. The instructions were mostly easy to follow and I would follow their advice of having a helper and wearing gloves (I did slice my finger during assembly as the edges are sharp). The instructions recommended certain tools to use, nothing out of the ordinary, screwdriver, pliars etc and they provide a little wrench. That being said if you try to use a normal screwdriver you will be extremely frustrated. It is designed as such that you have to hit most of the screws at an angle in which parts of the body block access so stripping the screws would be very easy to do. The screw heads are also a #3 head, not the typical #2 head. Luckily I had a 90 degree screw driver that had been previously sent with something else I had bought, but it was a #2 so not ideal but mostly worked. For the screws that had enough clearance I used my 90 degree power drill attachment with a #3 bit. The grease trap is horrible, it wouldn't fit due to the hole that was cut did not allow for the welds used to hold the chute together and I had to file out a groove to fit it in. It also tends to leak from the chute making a mess. The shelves are flimsy and the left side shelf is not able to be lowered when the propane tank is in place, again poor design. Onto the cooking, it gets hot and the ceramic is awesome. The cook top I received does have some defects and the lip of the griddle top, but nothing that impacts the cooking. Overall I got this on sale for $300 off, even at that price it feels cheap.
This item arrived with two dents. The assembly handy man was wonderful. But the item was dented.
sadly I would not recommend this griddle. I have only cooked on it 4 times and the entire heating surface is warped. way to thin gauged steel for high temp cooking. everything else seems good
