I was generally pleased with the motorized brush assembly. It cleans well and performs as advertised, but several design issues need addressing.
The biggest issue is weight balance. The brush is offset to one side while the heavier motor and gear assembly are on the other, causing the head to tilt toward the motor and lift the far side of the brush off the surface. This imbalance also causes uneven wear on the brush to one side. I believe this is due to both the motor's weight and the location of the pole attachment. Positioning the pole slightly closer to the brush would better counterbalance the motor, keep the brush flat, and improve cleaning performance.
The pole screws onto the head with standard right-hand threads but has no locking mechanism. To compensate for the imbalance, I naturally apply slight counterclockwise pressure while cleaning, which helps flatten the brush but gradually unscrews the pole. I then have to lower the unit, turn it off, and tighten the connection. Flipping the brush upside down and applying clockwise pressure isn't practical because the water sprays upward instead of onto the panel.
The charging port is also on the head, requiring the entire pole to be collapsed for every recharge. Relocating it to the handle would be much more convenient. Battery life is another limitation. It may be fine for smaller residential arrays, but I have 70 solar panels. Cleaning became a 3-day project. The battery requires lengthy recharge times, costing valuable daylight. A wider brush (12"-18") would also be a major improvement, and help with balance issues.
Unfortunately, after the first recharge, the charging failed. The initial charge drew 8-9 watts, but every subsequent attempt drew zero watts, leaving me unable to use the motorized brush for the second and third days.
The power button is also on the head, so the pole must be collapsed simply to pause or restart the unit. Likewise, speed selection is only available on the head, meaning the pole must also be collapsed to switch between high and low speed. Handle-mounted power and speed controls would greatly improve usability while helping conserve battery life on larger jobs.
The hose is securely attached at the head but not along the five-section telescoping pole. Only two small Velcro straps are provided, leaving most of the hose dangling where it can snag on the bolts securing solar panels to their racking. I found myself constantly keeping tension on the hose to prevent it from catching.
On the positive side, the locking telescoping pole is excellent. The keyed channel prevents the sections from twisting while extending or collapsing, and the pole easily reached the top of both of my 35-panel ground-mounted arrays.
As someone who sells solar systems for a living, I believe this brush has great potential. It cleans well and significantly speeds up the process. If the improvements were made, I would have no hesitation recommending this brush system to my customers.
