I really enjoy this VIOFO A229 PRO 1CH 4K dashcam! The 4K front video is super sharp and clear day or night, thanks to the Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. WiFi and GPS work great for easy access and tracking. Installation was simple, and it's reliable. Highly recommend—excellent quality for the price!
I have tried many brands and can't recommend any but VIOFO. They have the best mix of options and features. This particular model has the best price point for getting the features you'll want in a dashcam including an actual Starvis 2 IMX678 chipset. Other brands claim to have the chipset but actually may not - they will up convert from a lower resolution to get to 4K. This one is native 4K (front camera). The price was good as long as you did not want the rear or internal (cabin) cameras. It did come with a circular polar filter. The best installation requires the VIOFO HK4 hardwire kit (not included). That allows for a proper parking mode. A different brand I tried had parking mode but it did not have a parking mode timer. That means it would run until the hardwire adapter let the battery get down to the set voltage. This one allows you to select different times for how long it should run in parking mode. For example if you park at work you might set that mode for 12 hours. But at home if the car is sitting in the garage for the weekend, it doesn't need to be running until it gets the car to a low battery level. The A229 Pro is a great choice once you learn the menu settings and get it hardwired properly.
Dashcam works as it should once we realized we were not using a strong enough charge block. Once we changed it to a fast charge block it worked great. We use it in our RV. Love that it connects to our smartphone. Great for traveling.
So far so good, working as it should. Easy to attach and remove so it doesn't sit in the hot sun while vehicle is parked.
Works perfectly
Camera provides good video and has a lot of features. BEWARE, the static mounting pad does not work!. After 1 drive and 3 days sitting in a garage, the camera fell off. Had to return the enire unit and purchase a new one to get new mounting hardware. Will apply the GPS module directly to the window without the static sheet next time. If will be a bear to remove if I have to replace the windshield but at least the camera will not fall off.
we ordered the dashcam through Walmart however hen received it, it would not power up so we had to return it. I believe it will be a good camera once we get a working one.
