The tool performed exactly as anticipated. Worked great. No problems.
Remove the snap ring no problem
Got this item today and needed to use it asap. Read the reviews. Noticed there were no instructions so I started fiddling and lo and behold; figured it out. It is a clever way to change the heads. Worked like a charm!!
Using this as a spare as I don't like keeping track of detached pieces. should really come with a case or bag.
Its made pretty light, should have been listed as for smaller size rings, nothing larger than 1/2". I was going by the name brand as vise grip tools are usually made for heavy duty use. If I could have seen the tool first I wouldn't have purchased it.
Picked these up to 'have' as my 20 year old snap ring pliers were showing their age. I have had them a while but just used them a week ago. The design is straightforward enough but the 'clever' little pin/spring/toggle that holds the pliers together and allows for rapid changing of the pins allows way too much sideways play and the pins misalign when you start to apply any real force through the pliers. I was able to get the job done but not without more hassle than should be necessary for a fairly straightforward tool and a light duty internal snap ring. I might be able to replace the center pin with something that does not have a spring and will hold the pins in alignment but really that should not be necessary. Did Irwin test this tool at all before they put it on the market?
only took 3 weeks to get them, kept getting lost in the mail somehow
I bought 151564 at Amazon with interchangable plier types but no instructions are included in the plastic case telling me how to interchange the heads.
When closing the pliers the pins become misaligned causing the ring to go flying. Either the rIvet that holds the jaws together is not pressed properly or the metal that the jaws are made of is sub-par. Happened the first time I tried to use them. Bought brand new.
I tried to replace a split ring on as auto distributor. I bought these to save room in my toolbox. The tips fell off the handle. Lost 3 of the tips. Now I need to put my car up on the lift to find them in the engine compartment. I am going to buy the package of plies that don't fall apart.
