Great tool at a great price

oldretiredcop January 30, 2017

This is exactly what I needed for the job I was doing and to have handy for other jobs around the house. I had one similar for years and it never wore out. I just misplaced it. At this price I couldn't afford to pass it up even if I eventually find the other one amongst my tools.

Made clip earrings into pierced!!

SeasideGal2 March 3, 2017

I had a pair of earrings that looked like ruby in a gold setting. They were not real gold or rubies. They were screw backs & I had help from my husband to put a pierced earring fitting post bought at a bead store on them. It worked better than glue. The jewelry store wanted $85.00 to do it! The kit came with plenty of solder also.

Good Beginner tool, suitable for low use.

EarringJon June 14, 2014

I bought this because I needed to work on a circuit board for the first time in years. It is not a great tool for daily all purpose use. It is just fine for my recent needs and did the job well. It heats up and solders just fine. I would recommend this to anyone for a minor repair or a beginner to learn with. For serious work spend the money and get a real soldering station with a heavier, better balanced iron; for a few repairs around the house this is a great choice.

Good for its price.

Adlorin January 15, 2012

This is a very basic iron, and is good for general wire and circuit repair. Because it's 30 watts, it's too strong for micro-sized circuits as it'll melt the plastic quite quickly. Also, because it's 30 watts, it's not strong enough to do 8 gauge or smaller wiring in a proper manner. Great for speakers, appliances, older video game/VCR Systems and small learning projects. Don't expect a long life from this, as it is NOT a sturdy product -- but it WILL get most things done well, if you understand how to solder properly; tinning is your friend.. :)

Works great for light duty jobs.

kbzombie June 18, 2014

I see no reason to give a negative review. The iron works as expected for home use. The tip heats up to OVER 600 degrees (measured with temp probe) in a minute or two and has no problem melting solder. If you are trying to re melt solder, try to check for the type of solder and its melting point before complaining. There ARE different melting points. As for the quality and craftsmanship of this iron i would not expect it to last more than a few years, if that. I recommend this as a cheap buy that gets the job done.

did not meet expectations at all. I am using it to solder two very small wires together and i can't even get the wires to heat up properly for the solder to go into. takes a long time to heat up and not very efficient at retaining heat.

Go somewhere else for a soldering iron.

xalint1 February 16, 2012

I purchased this soldering iron at my local wally world,I figured for the price I really couldn't go wrong.Boy was I wrong this thing is terrible the tip of it hardly gets up to the right temperature to even melt the solder more then likely you would ruin the component that your soldering before the solder melts.I just had to pull out the old one I have had for over 20 some years that worked a lot better with less wattage.I should of known better then purchasing it where I did but it was in a pinch figured I would save time.So if your in a hurry try another brand.

Piece. Of. Junk.

Sisk February 6, 2016

I couldn't find my soldering iron one day and went out in search of a quick one to use to resolder about half a dozen poorly seated diodes on a piece of equipment that wasn't working right. I got home with this thing. I figured that I only needed it for this one project because my soldering iron will turn up sooner or later. If it quit working after one use I wouldn't have been too terribly upset. Unfortunately it make what should have been a 10 minute repair take about 2 hours, so I am rather upset. I've used a lot of cheap soldering irons over the years. My first one actually cost about the same as this thing, so I know how to deal with low-quality irons. Never before have I used one that made me want to pull out my hair as badly as this one does.

Spend a few extra bucks and get a Webber

beethoven2275 April 24, 2012

I bought this "soldering iron" to work on the electronics in my guitar. The tip wouldn't get hot enough to even melt the solder. I tried for over two hours to solder one excruciatingly simple connection. The next day I went to Lowes and bought a Webber Pro soldering iron for three times what I paid for this contraption. However, it took me under two minutes and zero hassle with the Webber. Save your money. This iron is useless. It's now sitting on top of my trash.

don't buy

Solderchef October 31, 2011

I have been soldering circuits for a while, and use a nice Weller Soldering station. Unfortunately when I moved away from home for college, I didn't bring it. For halloween I wanted to build a circuit for part of my costume, and bought this. I was only wanting to use it for this and maybe a few other small tasks. After less than 5 soldering joints, the tip of the iron got pitted and snapped off. I don't even know how it is possible. Needless to say, the soldering iron was horrible and I wouldn't even recommend it for a one time use. Especially do not buy if you are new to soldering. Borrow someone's soldering station so you can get a feel for how it should work. That way, you won't think soldering is as horrible as it was with this.
