Walnut hollow creative versa-tool with variable temperature control & 11 tips

I have been wanting this Versa Wood-burner Tool for a long time. I am using it to burn designs on gourds. I have had & used this for only a week. But it is working our great. It comes with its own clear plastic bin for storage & it has little dividers for the tips. I was very pleased with this as when I ordered it I was unaware of this feature. Have fun.

Overall I liked the temperature control feature best. Unfortunately there are no real instructions on using the burning tool included. Basically you need to trial and err to learn with this tool. You will need a well ventilated area with a fan nearby, as the fumes shouldn't be inhaled. I ordered 2 books, separately, but they show the more expensive type of wood burners, so will be returning those. In contrast, this is a rustic type of tool. You will need scrap woods or a spare of the type you want to use to learn the techniques-if you are a beginner. There are only a few good videos online showing how to use this type of wood burner tool. My use was for signs 12" x 16", basic lettering about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches tall. The calligraphy point didn't really work that well. I had to redo the letters with a combination of tips. The points that are included make pretty wide lettering. After seeing their width and wanting something narrower, I ordered the smaller points set separately, they are somewhat narrower. I did basic lettering about 1 1/2 to 2 inches tall these work okay. Finer detailing and fancier lettering would probably be better with the expensive, fancy wood burning set. Additional Items I needed to purchase: fine grit sandpaper to clean the points (or use a method you can find online); a fan; a heat resistant spot for the tool to sit--I used a ceramic tile; blue painters tape to hold the tool in place while heating; a piece to hold the dial in place while using it; graphite paper and a white graphite eraser; stain--if desired, and a polyurethane finish-if desired. I printed the words with my home printer and traced them onto the wood.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to use this tool. A word of warning -PLAN what you are going to do with it before turning it on, otherwise you'll be using it on EVERYTHING, lol. It is def fun to use!

I borrowed a wood burning set from a friend for a project this same brand but older model. I liked the bearable temperature dial it had and the good attachments.

My son works with wood projects and he loves this tool. He told me that he can do so much with this . He makes wooden marble stands and now he can make designs on them.

Have only had the burner for a short while, but it has all the tips and features I need for my crafts. If it holds up, it will be a great tool comparatively to the higher priced units I considered.

interesting tool, use with encaustic painting

This tool has multiple tips, I have used only one so far. I bought the Creative Versa for cutting designs in foam plastic pumpkins. I was able to accomplish this. I had to stop several times and tighten the tip with the pliers, especially warhen cutting a curve. This was annoying because when the tip was loose, the temperature dropped. Since this was my first time using the tool, and I was still on a "learning curve" so I will try it again. I did appreciate the variable temperature feature and the multiple tips for a variety of uses also it has a convenient storage case which is compact and keeps all the tips organized.

I gave this item to my husband for Father's Day , we wanted something to carve letters into wood since his a carpenter, when we have it to him he opened it right away he was all excited and you have to wait at least a good 10min before using, he tried and do designs and letters and it would get stuck on the wood so we thought ok lower the heat and so he did and nope, we lowered it some more and still the same thing, not really worth $30 that I paid for honestly! My husband was somewhat disappointed as well.
