I always loved Watkins Chili. I undersand that this is a new organic mix. I love it and my husbsnd loves it. I used fire roasted organic diced tomatoes. I'm glad I purchased the large bottle. I sometimes deglaze browned meat with a little cooking sherry to get all browned bits and add a little dimension.
Have tried other envelope mixes, some good and some almost flavorless. When I used the WATKINS chili seasoning mix I was very pleased. The flavor was rich, my search was over, this is what I had been looking for. An added flavor bonus was a modest, not breath taking, amount of spicy heat making a very delicious bowl of chili!
In my (and my sister-in-laws) opinion, this chili mix makes the best chili! As far as seasonings go we like it very much, and it's so easy/fast to use and make a yummy chili.
I used to sell Watkins until Walmart started to sell the products in the Stores and online. Was annoyed at first. However This Chili product is excellent,When I make it for the family ,I can never make enough.Personally I leave out the beans for authentic Chili. Purchasing this product from Walmart(as oppossed directly from Watkin)is far cheaper and you get it faster and to get free shipping you only need to spend 35 dollars as oppossed to Watkins 100 dollar minimum..Just a great Deal for a Great Product thats easy to prepare..
I am giving this mix 5 stars even though I haven't tasted it yet. I have never been disappointed with Watkins. All of the mixes are terrific and really enhance my cooking. I am sorry that 2 reviewers got in a wad over the GMO issue. They obviously did not read the Freedom Code items that are avoided on the gourmet products. GMO is never mentioned.
I made this last night, and it was GOOD! The only change I made to the directions was to reduce the ground meat to 1/2 lb. And increased to 2 cans of beans. I can’t eat any corn and was thrilled to find a product without any kind of corn in it. It has the right amount of spice to it, not mild, but not screaming hot either. This is perfect for a weeknight when you need to get something on the table that won’t take forever to cook. After browning the meat, and adding the remaining ingredients, I let it cook about 15 mins. Being organic is a plus. I will definitely purchase again.
It was a bit too spicy . you should make a milder one also
