Perfect for PS5, games are huge and needed the extra space for ps4 games.
Have had this HDD a month now and am quite happy with it. Not only does it provide storage for data and Flight simulation related files, but it houses the main operating files for the latest MS Flight Simulator, thus getting use each day for several hours. It is standing up to the task very, very well.
Have no frame of reference for what a good hard drive is, but definitely not disappointed. It has been big enough to hold the 7-10 PS4 I go back and forth from with no issue and room for about another 10? Im using it on my PS5, and the games downloaded onto the drive seem to run better then the ones downloaded on my PS5 directly, at least that’s how it feels to me. And it honestly looks nice perched on top of my PS5, feels and looks like a product worth its weight in gold!
I needed something to help with the PS5 storage issue, mainly bringing all my PS4 games to it. All the research pointed me to Western Digital. While I can't play PS5 directly from it, I no longer need to delete the entire game and reinstall it. I simply just have to move it over. Much faster. It works quite well for wjat I use it for.
Does what it needs to. I need budget storage for my series s. Is it annoying that I can't play optimized or new games off it yes, but it is a lot faster to transfer games to and from the hdd than having to redownload them even with me being the only internet user in my apartment. But it's nice that less demanding games and backwards compatible games will run off it. Hopefully will be able to run well for a few years till expansion cards finally drop to a good price on the regular
works as described. i am able to save my game to it and not have to worry about not having enough room on my PS4.
Fantastic amount of storage for all my PlayStation 4 games. Great price point for amount of storage. Beware though the transfer speeds are much slower than compared to a Solid State Drive SSD.
Works great and gives me plenty of space for my games (as well as backing up high-res pngs/pdfs of my illustration). I don't uninstall games to make more space now. Not sure how long it will last, hopefully a long time.
Do it have anything else similar to compare to. Smaller size and faster speed compared to older USB 2 WD Mybook external hdd. Work right out of the box: no formatting needed on Windows 10 machines. Cable is kind of short at about 18", and it's not USB C connector on either end.
I was excited to see a solution to storing and accessing a massive game library, but this drive simply does not have the speed to play games directly off the drive. From very basic to advanced games I noticed episodes of lag spikes and it a few games even skipping. I thought this may have been my internet connection, but this would occur even with offline games. As another test, I uninstalled the internet games off the this drive and re-installed them on my computer's built-in hard drive and had no issues. The concept of this drive is great, have a way to store and access a massive game library, however, as it stands this drive is good for nothing more than storing data. I'm giving 3 stars because it's actually a decent external hard drive and would probably give 5 if it was marketed as an external hard drive rather than as something which it clearly fall short of...
