I can't put in words how great these Red Pro drives are. This is my second Red Pro drive adding to my Alienware R8. I have been building my home library for streaming. My friends were all saying to get a Synology NAS system but I had a perfectly good R8 that I wasn't using for gaming or anything so I thought why not use it. The area I live in (near Chattanooga, TN) is where the EPB Electrical Utility has the GIG Fiber available to all of it's customers. I know my i9 processor might be overkill but these drives are awesome. The Plex software has not had 1 glitch in retrieving anything on my library. I have put this thing to the test with multiple streams and the drives have been flawless!
So far so good. A little noisy but if that's what concerns you about a hard drive, I suggest a priority shift.
As described. So far so good! High capacity and best price I could find
Installed in my NAS, runs great no issues . I will purchase more.
Bought 4 additional 18TB drives which were delivered quickly by UPS. All the drives worked with no issues. These drives were added to a ZFS raidz2 pool no issues and during the scrub and smart tests they were all in great working condition. Fast reads and writes of the data on the server. I Would recommend these for NAS! I did a large amount of research online before purchasing these for my NAS server. These drives are recommended for NAS in large arrays which was a key selling point.
I've been buying and using Western Digital Drives since the 90s and they are STILL running. Bought (4) 3TB Drives about 10 years back and wanted to build a new NAS to replace them. I wanted to get a couple more but the Black Friday sale ended so I'll wait for now. Only been about a month but they are running great 👍🏽 it's crazy to think when I was a kid in the late 90s that the largest drives were about 1GB to 3GB and now 20 years later we have single drives that are well over 6,000x larger. I've used 100s of hard drives over the years for myself, friends, family and customers and Western Digital are the most reliable IMO. It's even better being able to order straight from the source. Only thing that bothers me about these drives is they don't have all the screw holes on the bottom like my old 3TB drives and my old Quit Case Trays they sit on only line up with 2 of the screw holes. Something to consider. Other than that working good, much quicker, pretty quiet and tons of storage, I should be good for another decade 😉
I would like to start by saying that i have always found WD products to be top quality. I have decided that I need a personal cloud service and started by purchasing a small NAS enclosure with some drives. My first two WD drives came from a retailer online. I had a not so good experience with them and decided to cut out the middle man and go to the manufacturer site. This afforded me the pleasure of lower cost. The WD drives i purchased perform just as they should and that is a positive. The sigular negative that i have is the shipping time. I was anxious to have the drives here quickly so i payed for two day delivery, 10 days later they arrived. Thia does not sour me with buying from the WD store in the future, it is just annoying.
I used to trust WD very much for the quality. Now I've changed my mind based on 2 NAS HDD ordered. THEY ALL CAME DEAD ON ARRIVAL. I cannot believe it! I will certainly move to seagate or other brand instead. I connected them to my computer either by USE or on motherboard, the 12T plus model never even started, the 18T model makes weird noise first and both my mac and PC could not even recognized it. My synology NAS cannot find 12T plus model. Although it can recognize 18T pro model, it cannot even initiate it. They are just trash. Now I know why WD cut down the price!!! I believe they are all used!!! These NAS HDDs are trash!!!!! SHAM ON YOU!!!
Very loud, vibrated so much I was worried for other drives in the nas
“1-2 Weeks Backordered” really means it wont even ship 5 weeks later. Still waiting. Almost at a critical point for needing. You'd think - we'll cancel and order elsewhere! But…. They have a free usb flash drive that came with the order that shipped day 1. So you can't touch this order.
