This drive is still a good option for budget friendly storage vs ssds, dramatically affected by the state of the industry at the date this review goes up, if you can deal with the mild hum that comes with the mechanical operation. The noise level of the drive is average among hard drives, its honestly about the same as the 5400rpm blue drive it replaced for me(Measured around 54db installing a game using an app on my phone). Due to the large cache on this drive its performs very similarly to a sata ssd in regards to game loading time once your games are installed, with the caveats of louder operation and slower sustained data speeds when the cache is used up. Overall I'd recommend this drive for storing the bulk of your steam library if you don't feel like forking out the money for a large ssd.

I've only been using this drive for about 2 weeks, but it installed easily and and was recognized by Windows 10 immediately. The only thing I had to do was initialize it in Windows disk management. It's been working very well as an additional storage drive (not an OS drive), which I am using to run Steam games from, as well as storing other files on. It runs very quiet in my case, virtually silent (even when accessed). So far this has been another great WD hard drive and will hopefully last as all of the other many WD drives I've owned. One thing puzzled me was the appearance of the drive I received. It looked like any other WD drive I've used and not the black-colored drive pictured on the WD website. Also, this is a bare drive and not a boxed kit. I don't know if the boxed drives are even available anymore, but that's no big deal to me.

Western Digital BLACK drives are very good! Fast transfer speeds. Five year warranty. These are kind of noisy and do run a little hot, so make sure you have adequate ventilation. Other than that, no issues.

It works as it should / only time will tell / right now I am very pleased. Good quality product / great packing.

This HDD was easy to install and gives enough space for all of my files and games and then some. Worth the price.

It's a little loud but it works good

First one DOA, sent back on RMA. It wouldn't initialize. I tried it in a couple of different rigs. Replacement clicks and sometimes makes very bad noise but it works. I have no confidence the second drive will last very long. Not very happy with the quality of these drives. RMA process was expensive, I had to pay to ship it back!

Dead on arrival, fresh from the moisture protected bag. Would not work, would not partition. Would not be detected. I hate WD products. Getting a refund tomorrow.

BEWARE OF SELLER!! Item was opened and used. It was almost 4 years old. So, it only had a little over a year left on warranty when this drive comes with a 5 year warranty.

Only works intermittently in my MyBook Pro raid drive. WD recommended this to me to replace a failed Black drive. At first wouldn't even recognize it, then it did briefly and mirrored the first drive. Then it stopped working. I can't return the drive because it is now full of my data. It has been nothing but problems.
