I've had my SmokeFire for a month or so and it's worked perfectly. I also have a Genesis natural gas grill which works great. but it couldn't produce the perfectness that the chicken cooked on my brother-in-laws pellet grill did. Great flavor (hint of smoke), crispy skin and moist meat! So far I've cooked chicken twice on the SmokeFire, perfection. I'll keep using the Genesis for steaks, chops, burgers and dogs. Looking forward to expanding into ribs etc on the SmokeFire too.
Just like everyone else, I read the reviews and studied all the specs in an effort to make sure that I was making the right purchase. I have not regretted my decision to go with the SmokeFire EX4. Are there a couple of things that I would like to see get improved in future designs, for sure. You will have that with anything. The bottom line is that it works, and works very will. So far, there have not been any issues with performance. The SmokeFire EX4 lights quickly, and gets to temp fast and stays at a reliable level the whole cook time. I will note here, I take very good care of the equipment. That means I vacuum out the fire box after every use, even if it is just a couple of burgers and wasn't in use for a long period of time. It is probably overkill, but in my mind, those few minutes to vacuum it out is probably less time then I would spend if I had a failed light due to some ash that may not have exited the burn pot during cooking. It is a quality grill, take care of it and it will perform great. Don't let the rear hopper shake you. I have realized since owning this SmokeFire EX4 with the rear hopper, I enjoy that design. It does add a little depth to grill, but it also helps provide the buffer distance away from items (that we already should have) to maintain safe spacing. What that does mean though, is now you have a grill that does not have a large hopper hanging off to one side, making the unit super long. One call out about the hopper that I would like to see improved in future designs, the emptying of the hopper to switch out pellets could help from quality of life improvements. I like to switch flavors depending on what I am cooking. The gate design restricts the outgoing flow of pellets and seems to be placed a little high. If there was something like a tip down spout the width of the underside of the hopper like the spout on a salt container that could be released to empty the quickly into a bucket or some other container, that would be awesome! Regardless, the current set up is manageable, and not everyone is constantly switching to different pellets. If you have made it this far in my review, then we both know you are seriously considering this Weber SmokeFire EX4 or the EX6. It is a great grill and performs very well, so you should go for it and get to cooking! Your family and friends will thank you.
A lot of room and smokes well! The hopper is behind the grill and doesn't feed pellets for long smokes, greater then 5 hours, without having to move the pellets around. Mine keeps flaming out around the 3 hour mark, haven't been able to trouble shoot it down very well.
was having great success and cooking wonderful grilled and smoked items and enjoying the ability to view on my mobile app the status of the items cooking. I recently had problems with the grill loosing the flame and consented tech support and was first directed to change the glow plug. that seemed to work for a short while and then was directed to clean the auger with a shop vac and was informed this should be done after each time you use a full load of pellets. That seems to now have done the job and am now back to enjoying the grill. We consumers need to be informed of this important step to avoid this problem in the future..
I've used pellet smoker/grills before and when used as a grill, food tastes grilled. This one does not. I can't really describe why, but even when the temp is "cranked" to try to seer the food tastes more baked than grilled. As a smoker, its great. But I grill much more than I smoke so I'm disappointed. My fault... I should've done more research before buying. So if you're looking for a smoker, this one will do the trick. But if you also want to grill, I don't recommend.
At about 1 year I am having issues with the igniter for the pellets. I am having issues getting it fixed and would like to know if there is a service I can get out to fix it.
Weber is one of the best companies out there and usually makes the best products. I started out with the kettle, have the Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker, and am now on my second Genesis. However, the SmokeFire failed to reach temperature twice (pretty much shut down). The first time customer support spent an hour with me trying to solve the problem. When it happened again, I realized I just couldn't take a chance with an unreliable grill, so arranged for a return. The support and response couldn't have been better, and I am still a loyal Weber fan. In fact I went out and bought a new Genesis II to replace it. They just need to work out the kinks with this new pellet venture.
Unfortunately, I had to send my 2nd gen SmokeFire back after less than 6 uses. My first two smokes went very well and smoker was very easy to use. However, after my 3rd attempt I couldn't get the smoker to ignite and was forced into shutdown. Then the glow plug went out. The next several attempts (days apart) the same issues arose to no avail. I have been a loyal Weber customer for over 25 years and can say I am disappointed for the first time using a Weber product. Still on the fence about getting a new unit or going a different direction. The smoker itself is slick, heavy duty and very well designed. Hoping mine was just a lemon and not what Weber is putting out there. I will say however, customer support was fantastic to work with in reviewing all possible options for a refund or replacement. Torn on this one given the money spent and other options out there but it is a Weber and willing to try again if they follow up with my feedback.
Cooks/ smokes well when it is working... have had this grill for a few months, and only used it about 10 times. The grill has quit working will not heat up, and or shuts off halfway through the cooking process. I have done all of the required maintenance and the replacement of parts that the warranty department has sent me. I have spent more time fixing and repairing this grill than actually cooking on it. Not happy!
Really wanted to like it, ended up sending it back after about 6 weeks. Wouldn't hold temp very well at all, with the temp set at 225 it would go anywhere from 175 to 450. Also frequent flameouts. Weber stood behind their product though, sent a truck to pick it up and gave me a full refund.
