I love the fact that this is made in USA. It heats quickly. The pellet hopper on the back is also very convenient. This will fit 7 tri-tips with NO problem. Like most pellet smokers, it does have a hot spot that I need to be aware of, and plan my meats properly. But all-in-all, it works amazing and again, It's Made In USA. Let's keep America working.
The SmokeFire should be a consideration for anybody looking for a pellet cooker. In addition to low and slow cooking temps it has the ability to get hot enough to sear better than other competitively prices pellet grills. I find myself turning to this cooker most often when I prefer to cook with minimal hassle and maximum flavor. Thank you to the great Weber Team.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was in the market for a smoker as a close friend had one of the competitors product and I loved the taste of the food. I decided to go Weber as I own 3 other weber grills and had a great experience all around with the products and the company. I had friends over for ribs including my friend with the other guys grill and I put out unbelievable ribs for everyone. The next day 3 of my friends went out and purchased the SmokeFire including the guy with the other guys grill! Smokes great, easy to clean and use. If you are making steaks, try reverse searing them; smoke for about an hour low and hit them at 600 degrees, best steak you will ever have!!
Pros: plenty of smoke, appreciate the smoke taste vs gas, adequate cooking area, wide temp range (can smoke low and slow AND grill/sear), computer monitored/adjusted temps makes smoking much easier than my Smokey Mountain, nice looking grill, comes with two extra probes, I like the direct flame vs ambient heat from a plate of metal (I.e competitor's design), arguably good value compared with its most famous competitor. Cons: vastly uneven temps even with grill preheated and lid closed, flame blows to one side (once you learn the “hot” spot and colder spots you can use the variations intentionally, but if you rely on the one built-in probe you're shooting in the dark in terms of knowing what temperature the food is actually cooking at—frustrating when trying new recipes), lots of moving parts (not confident this will last 15 years like my Weber gas grill), takes a long time to go through the “shutdown” process and you can't bypass, thin metal body and grates compared to my Weber Genesis which is a cast-iron tank in comparison—so not much ambient temperature to mitigate heat loss when opening lid, requires frequent cleaning compared to gas but that seems ubiquitous with pellet grills, the top rack can be useful but also makes it difficult to turn meat that is under it when the grill is loaded, the cost of pellets vs gas is not insignificant, routing of probe cables from behind the lid (per instruction manual) is awkward and creates a wider gap that releases more smoke (indicating it might affect temperature or intended convection current), pellets hopper not steep enough—requires periodic manual help to avoid a pit forming. Conclusion: Not sure yet. I've had this grill about 2 months and often use it multiple times a week. This is my first experience with a pellet grill. I love grilling! The SmokeFire is fun to cook with, and so far the food has turned out AMAZING most of the time. But for me this is a big investment and I want to feel more confident about build quality and parts not needing to be replaced. The uneven temperature issue seems to be very common from web comments. I've never had a grill that cooked perfectly evenly—so I'm not expecting perfection—but this seems a little extreme. I suspect the next generation SmokeFire will have better design to address “Cons” noted above. Just not sure if I want to wait for SmokeFire v3 or learn to live with the quirks of v2…OR go with the more expensive competitor. . .which also has its trade-offs…
After resolving electrical part issues over the first 3 weeks of ownership (Weber support was pretty good throughout) , I finally had a proper experience with the EX6. The grill heated up quickly, worked well to infuse smoke into the meat I prepared and shutdown in a proper sequence. I look forward to challenging the grill with Pork shoulder and ribs in the very near future.
Have had a lot of issues that should have been engineered out. Other pellet brand grills don't have these issues.
When it works its great. Ive had numerous flame outs when using smoke feature. Had a flame out during a long cook because pellets captivating in hopper.
I have always loved Weber grills but so far I'm not impressed with the smokefire. The pellets do not feed well and I can't leave the smoker. I have to push pellets across every hour or so or it will flame out.
I love my Smokefire, used it probably twice a month and after two years started to malfunction. Reached out to Weber support and they wanted me to dismantle it and send different photos which is impossible for me, I like to cook but I am not a mechanic. So after two years it's just sitting there.
I wanted to like this grill but it just wasn't up to the task. The pellets never fed right so it kept flaming out. In 2 weeks I went thru 4 igniters. The control unit finally had an “unspecified error” and stopped working. I took it back to the store. I believe Weber is unparalleled in charcoal and gas grills and I use my other Weber summit grills weekly. Sorry Weber, I still love your products and your customer service but this one had to go.
