I have flattened ground beef patties with every imaginable method at hand: cooking pan lids, palm of hand, large peanut butter jars (you should have seen my Pop's eyes grow wide when I grabbed the PB jar while preparing hamburgers - he thought I was going to add PB to the meat!), and a heavy grilling spatula to name a few. The Weber Burger Press takes the frustration out of forming patties. It's convenient to use and produces uniform, firm, and easily-flipped burger meat(patty doesn't fall apart during handling). I like the "dimple" feature in the unit for providing a flat burger to serve off the grill onto a bun. Clean-up is easy and sanitary. I will admit to sandwiching the meat between two sheets of waxed paper during the pressing process to facilitate patty handling. The Burger Press is a great addition to anyone's BBQ gear.
Press works very well. I like the option for different weight patties.
Does just what i need it to do make me a double cheeseburger with my favorite toppings inside love this
Easy to use, used a little cooking spray. Actually takes a little more than 1/2 pound to make that size, but who would complain about a bigger burger. The burger maintained it's shape on the grill too.
I recently bought this because it appeared to be a real time saver and preparing perfectly shaped patties at the right thickness is always a challenge. This Weber patty mold proved to be very useful and I was able to form five patties in a matter of minutes. The meat will stick somewhat to the plastic lid, not much you can do about that though. Perhaps inserting a piece of thin, pliable parchment paper would work but I didn't have any on hand. I'd definite recommend this as this tool can form multiple thicknesses of patties including Smash burger thiness if desired.
Forms the perfect 1/3 lb or a thinner patty for bun sized burgers.
Works really well and makes nicely shaped patties that are the right size for grilling and standard buns. The meat sometimes sticks to the base, so that could be improved.
I had a gathering, my husband requested homemade hamburger versus the boxed. Small gathering this is fine but with getting the decks and outdoor furniture ready after winter it's a lot of work. Since I needed to order another chimney starter because we gave our last to my SIL. I saw the hamburger maker and thought it would speed up the process. Not so much! I fought it the whole way, threw it in the sink and started making them by hand. The meat sticks, and falls apart after about 4-5 burgers. The dent it creates does not prevent shrinking. This was a waste of money and my time. Sorry Weber!
Given the details instructions that come with a Weber grill, you would think this little unit would have instructions or even a PDF instructions here on the web page. Nope. One is left having to figure out the right amount of burger meat to use. Make sure to use parchment paper to line the press to be able to remove the patties when done pressing. About ready to throw this away and just use my hands ...
Do yourself a favor and find an old flexible plastic version of this item. One party company has been selling them for decades and has enough flex so you can easily get the patty out. They are stackable and interlocking so you can make patties ahead or even freeze them for future use complete with a snap on lid. Weber makes great grills, but this accessory falls flat.
