I can't say enough good things about Weber and my recently received Summit SB38 that replaces my nearly 20 year old Summit Platinum. I loved my old grill but this new Summit SB 38 with new Weber grill technology is a significant upgrade. The electronic starters, the new PureBlu burners and the overhead infrared sear burner are amazing. The included frame kit is also a nice feature. This unit is bigger than my old Summit Platinum and I had to make a couple of slight modifications to my grill island to fit the new grill but no biggie. The SB 38 is a fantastic grill and I'm looking forward to years of enjoyment.
Love this grill. Heats up quickly. Pretty even heat distribution. Comes with the smoker box which I use all the time. The last Weber is about 12 years old and I wanted to upgrade. A little pricey but great choice.
I loved the first Built-in Summit for my home in Arizona that I bought a second for my home in Illinois!
We've only had the grill for a few weeks, but what I can confirm is that it heats quickly, its VERY spacious and the overall quality of the build is great. Was a lot of work to set up and the finished surround could have been a little more thought through. One comment - the adhesive used on the protective film left a residue on the doors and hood, despite removing it right away. We had to use acetone to remove it. The grill hood was ruined but Weber was great in sending a prompt replacement. Overall very happy so far.
The bottom of my last Weber rusted out which required total replacement of the grill. The new one has large openings on each side that allows rain water to pour down inside the cabinet area. I am concerned the new one is going to rust out even sooner. Also the electronics and batteries are right in the path of all the water. Looks like a poor design to me. It would have been nice if the new grill had the same dimensions as the old one. I had to cut out 2" of granite to make it fit.
The design of this model has open gaps on both the side of the grill that allows rain and food drippings to leak directly down into the bottom cabinet. The wiring and bottom of the cabinet are now soaked with each rain (yes, I cover the grill) and food drippings as I lift food on and off the grill. I was told that this was an intentional design feature to allow for airflow. My previous Weber Summit lasted 10+ years with a sealed frame (the same as every other barbeque from all other manufacturers). A simple Google search exposes that this is a common complaint with this high-end model. One company sells filler strips to cover the openings. It's a shame to have to buy aftermarket parts to fix a design mistake from this premium brand.
This is my 3rd Weber built in grill. I have always been satisfied until the latest model. The new design has 2 inch gaps on each side . Besides looking terrible rain pours down into the underneath storage area. The rain also hits the wires underneath . I wish I knew this before I bought.
Was very happy with my 660 summit but it was rusting out.I had a red top weber prior I had rebuilt 2 times got almost 20 years out of. So I decided it was time to replace after about 10years. Not completely installed yet the SB38S seams to be well made,a little deeper, and little narrow I will have to alter not a problem.im a little concerned about the top sides are opened,am I missing something,is there any missing parts or do I have to fabricate a cover so water, snow does not enter and rust out my grill again.please advise so I can complete installation or is there a stainless plate you sell to fill the gap. I will give an updated rating when I complete the installation. If i have to fill the gap will it affect operation.
