Great planer especially for the price. i did ding one of the tips but that was my fault. it was super easy to change and within two minutes I'm back to a really nice smooth finish, i really like this machine and recommended it. i would like to see carbide blades come with it opposed to the steel ones that are on it but as they dull i will switch them out. it does work better using some kind of dust collector, i noticed without any kind of dust collection it can leave tiny indents from where the chips can sometimes get pushed into the stock but they are easily sanded out. Overall its a game changer for the price point.
This is a great beginner to intermediate level planer. It leaves a very smooth finish and operates as it should. Make sure to clean the rollers and keep debris out or your wood will not feed properly. In addition to this, the blades are steel and not carbide. There are several other brands that are identical to this that cost more and the blades not being carbide are the main reason. Other than this, it is a great machine and well worth it, especially in this over-inflated economy where the price of power tools and everything else keep going up. I'd get one while you can, the price will only go up.
Planner does a great job planning 1.25 x 6 Garapa wood which is a hard wood
He loves it. Loves the blades
Love it. Gets the job done
Beautiful results and easy assembly
Only been using it for a few days so far, but fairly heavy use in that time. The first few boards were glass smooth. I think there are already some small aberrations in the blades but they are easily replaceable individually so that is a big advantage of this over a straight bladed version. It seems very consistent and hasn't bogged down so far even running almost the full width (although mostly softer woods so far). I do wish the blades were replaceable with 14mm 4 sided, but I've read they aren't. I also wish they were carbide but for the price, it is hard to be upset. It quickly overwhelmed my shop vac dust extraction and so I built one with a leafblower and that is working well. It makes a LOT of small shavings very quickly.
Was disappointed with this wen planer, the rollers just did not push the wood through. Ordered a 3 blade wen instead, my opinion is the spiral blades are just to much trouble, too much can go wrong with that many blades. But the rollers were the biggest issue.
The planner does leave the wood very smooth that is why the 2 stars. It does have a major problem with chip blow back out the front and this is with a vacuum system hooked up. You have to clean wood chips every time before running a new pass. When I called customer service I was told this was normal. The tech, if you can actually call him that, was using a YouTube video as a reference. He told me that he can see it happening on the video so it must be normal. There is more to this but why bother. You can count on 3 to 4 inches of undercut at the ends no matter what you do.
-1 Star 🌟 for this! Not WEN but Walmart. I made the order and their system charged the wrong card. I noticed the error and canceled the order minutes after it happened. They went ahead and put the order through even though I redid the order for a second time. I asked them multiple times to cancel and they said they couldn't. My account was overdrawn. Now I have two of the same thing delivered and I have to go print labels out of my pocket for returns. Not cool Walmart. I'll never make such a big risk purchase with you again.
