Westclox Battery Operated Digital Alarm Clock with Backlight– Model# 70045A

Had to search for a few hours to find this clock. Had to have sensor to turn on and off the backlight (auto or manual). Big numerals, visible by day, battery powered (3 AAA's). Only weak point is that the display favors looking down on the clock (below eye level). To compensate for that the box comes with a template and retaining screws for the box that can be used to mount the clock above eye level and tilted down and secured for high up viewing. I use mine under an eave in the summer when sleeping outside to check the time early in the morning and inside on a night table in the winter. Pressing down on the top makes the backlight very bright which will help light up a dark room. It goes back to weak backlight in a short time.

Perfect clock for personal use could be a bit heavier

This is an excellent clock for people with limited vision capabilities, as well as those with normal vision. When I first open my eyes, it is like looking through tissue paper for an hour or so. However, I can still read this clock. That's great for middle-of-the-night time checks. The display characters for the main time display are about 1-1/2" tall with good contrast, thus easy to read from near and far. They are crisp

I bought this clock to place on top of my tv so I could see the time directly in front of me. The picture on line shows the clock illuminated, however, this is deceiving because I thought the clock was lit all the time. This is not the case. It lights up when you push the bar on top of the clock only to save the battery life which consist of 3 AAA batteries which You have to supply. I like the clock otherwise, but the vendor should state in the description that it only lights up when the bar is pressed.

I thought it was powered by cord, not battery, so I sent it back. A little smaller than I expected.

Westclox really blew it this model. "automatically lights up in the dark" (this does not happen unless it is turned on and it stays on and if you want to see automatic the snooze button needs to be pushed). With the back light on in the dark the display can't be read unless you are above the display by approx. 20 to 40 degrees above it. Only if you push the snooze button it lights up brightly enough to read. We are very disappointed in this model and we will go to the store and find a large, easy to set and read model with lit LED's.

I thought with the blue background you could see the numbers (in black) at night better. No all you see is the blue. So if all you need is a clock for daytime then it would be ok cause it is a green background. So I am not happy with the product.

The specs say this clock has a cord to plug in the wall. At least that's what I take corded to mean. It's battery operated. I didn't want a battery operated one.

The description given in the details online indicate that this clock is a corded electrical clock and as shipped it is only battery operated. I wanted a corded clock, so it is going back to Walmart.
