Westcott Full Size Auto Retractable Ceramic Utility Box Cutter, Plastic, Green, 1-Count

I bought this box cutter because it looked cool. When I got it I was confused, the blade looked like a piece of plastic. But I tried it and found it worked almost as well as a new steel bladed box cutter. It was then I learned this was a ceramic blade. I don't know the ins and outs concerning ceramic vs. metal blades, I just know this blade also works. I haven't worn a blade out yet so I can't say if it lasts as long as metal blades. And I can't say how much of a hassle replacing blades would be vs. a metal blade (although changing a metal blade in many box cutters is a dark adventure indeed. I do know that through my aggressive issues with Fat Finger Syndrome, the ceramic blade is far less likely to bite me than the metal ones. I would buy again.

I use this knife at work to cut open bags and a lot of them! Sometimes 200 a day and it's IV bags so it gets wet repeatedly and it still performs really well! This is a really good knife! It doesn't rust and never lets me down on sharpness!! Definitely recommend!!

So glad I bought this cutter! Excellent value for a ceramic safety blade cutter. The blade has a blunt tip and extends to approx. 1/2 inch - both protect against slicing into a package’s contents (or your fingers). Ceramic edge is more than sharp enough to whip through reenforced packing tape. I made a knotted lanyard from surveyor’s cord so I can hang the cutter from my wrist when dealing with multiple boxes. I didn’t realize this was auto-retracting - meaning you use the thumb slide to bring up the blade which then automatically retracts when you release the slide - I love this feature!!! You can pop it in pocket without worrying. A note: this does not have a feature to lock the blade in the up position.

This box cutter is much easier %26 safer to use than standard metal box cutter with sharp metal blade. It retracts when pressure is off handle slide, so you don’t have to worry about getting accidentally cut if you drop it or pick it up wrong while metal blade is extended. Works great for opening sealed cardboard shipping boxes!

Do all box cutters have self-retracting blades now? If this is the case then I would definitely buy this again. The box cutter is easy to spot with the bright green color but you have to hold the button to keep the blade extended. I find that inconvenient. It is made well and does the job but that button is a deal breaker for me. The blade is also not very long and that is a bit more challenging. The weight of it was a lighter than expected but felt solid and well made. The color made is easy to spot from a distance.

Handle feels comfortable, and holding the blade out while cutting and having it automatically retract is a good safety feature. When cutting a lot of boxes with arthritis holding the blade out can be a bit uncomfortable, but safety is more important. It is a ceramic blade, and I bought it because it is a good value, but I don't know if the blade is replaceable. Over all a great purchase.

It Cuts well. I do not like the fact that it doesn't lock the blade so you don't have to hold the slide to keep the blade extended while you're using it. It makes it difficult to navigate. I'm on the fence if I would recommend this to anyone. The Item is extremely light in weight. It is very thin in overall size a lot smaller than I was expecting.

sure. they cut stuff. but I've cut myself several times trying to hold the button down while I cut, one-handed, bc the blade doesn't stay open. it does not remain raised in any way unless you are directly holding the button down. then you have no control over the fine direction it goes.

I bought four of these utility knives when we were moving and had them rush delivered to the house. The first one broke into multiple pieces upon opening the package - not useable. I figured it must be a dud. Upon opening the second one, I couldn't figure out how to raise the blade. As I was tinkering with it, the blade fell out and wouldn't go back in. I have uo and returned them all. Super cheap and flimsy, and I am still not quite sure how it works - it was NOT intuitive at all.

this item is sharp enough but the way it's designed is not comfortable %26 easy to push on the blade (tgere is no locking blade) you have to push on the button to keep the blade engaged %26 it would be much better if the button would be on the side. Not happy with it
