Western Digital 6TB WD Blue PC Desktop SATA HDD, 3.5" Internal Hard Drive HDD, 5400 RPM, 256MB Cache, CMR - WD60EZAX

Very nice HDD for "cold storage". I bought this 8TB in Nov-22 for $120. I already have a fast pc and fast storage. I have a 1TB of arguably the fastest PCIe4x4 nand SSD, a 960GB Optane SSD, and a cold storage 3TB Seagate HDD and they were getting filled with stuff I didn't actively use and didn't want to redo or redownload. My long term backup method to optical(or M-disc) takes too long for anything but the most valuable data, and an 8TB SSD costs too much to justify. This 8TB drive will give me a lot more space to keep what I want. It also does sequential R/W in Crystaldiskmark of over 200MB/s compared to the 140MB/s of the other smaller HDDs I have and 5x as fast as my 340Mb/s cable internet download speed when the internet is perfect. My drive came straight from WD and was manufactured in Oct-22. And like most that buy them it ran perfectly and I expect it to last as long as the still running WD Blue 1TB in my daughter's PC that I picked up in 2011. Also it is not clicky like the old Velociraptor HDD I have in the office. It is often slow for things like games, and isn't the best choice for continuous reading and writing, but that isn't what I got it for. If I store a modded game on it and I want to play it for more than a few hours I will likely drag that folder to a faster drive. If I want to backup my phone's photos/videos the WD can hold them until I save them permanently. If I have a video project that is taking too much space, to the WD it can go. Tons of space that is fast enough for cold storage.

This was a big jump upward for me - I've only used 1 and 2 GB drives in recent years. I bought it to back up a Windows 10 desktop that I was upgrading with a Windows 11 machine. With the drive in a USB adapter case, I saved all my music, images, desktop, etc. to access on the new machine. That was months ago. I was so pleased that I bought two more of these 8 TB drives to put in a Terramaster case in a RAID2 configuration. That's where the disc image is split between two drives, which is almost as fast as SSDs. Anyway, the drive on the desktop, with the stuff from my Windows 10 computer, was copied to the RAID drives, and now I'm re-using the desktop drive to backup the RAID drives. (Although blazing fast, in RAID2 if one drive fails, you lose all the data, so you need to back up a RAID2 drive.)

it's a great price for 6TB of storage, It appears as a WD blue and they sent a 6TB red but it's ok, for 150 dollars I can't complain. I'm using it as extra storage on my desk top computer.

Set up easily, no issues formatting, and seems to be as advertised. It was well packaged from WD, as expected, and arrived undamaged.

The last brand of hard drives for my NAS lasted roughly 5 years. Apparently that is the "average" life span. Going to try Western Digitial Red Plus drives to see how they perform.

Great product, great performance, easy setting them up

This recertified drive looked exactly like a new one. In the 2 weeks I've had it, it's worked fabulously as an archiving drive for media.

its a good drive while it works but it keeps failing after 6 to 8 months of use. It has happened more than twice

I purchased a WD ssd drive. After I received it, I reformatted it for Mac OS. Now I can't access it with me MacBook or iMac thru the usb ports. I tried using the disk utility, and it couldn' recognize it. The red light lights up but the unit is undetectable.
