Excellent Product

YardGuy1 November 9, 2020

This Western Pecan product is much better that others. The chunks are good size and not small like chips. If you are looking for smoking wood, chunks are appropriate for side firebox smokers. If you have a Weber Kettle or other type of grill, you will need chips not chunks. For gas or charcoal grills, I recommend you buy a smoking tube and use chips to fill the tube. You will get good results. A smoking tube can also be used in a side smoker to enhance the amount of smoke being directed at the meat. I've used mine on brisket and ribs will excellent results. The smoke tube helped increase the amount of smoke ring on the meat. Good luck.

Nice Product can be split to make chips

Larry August 23, 2020

The Hardwood Chunks are more cost effective then the chips, when used in a smoker, but don't give off as much smoke then the chip, as they burn a little slower. I found I could split the chunks a little finer, so they were bigger then the ready made chips, so lasted a little longer but would burn and produce more smoke, quicker then the larger chunks. I like the variety of hard woods and like to experiment with different woods to get different tastes.

Gives a better flavor than plain charcoal

Counselor53 August 17, 2021

We have a Kamado and regularly grill/smoke thru the warm weather. This adds a really good flavor to the meat/poultry - doesn't matter what kind. Much better than straight charcoal!

Good buy

DarkstarIce July 22, 2021

I don't do a whole lot of smoking but there are plenty of nice sized chunks and smaller pieces in there for average/occasional use I'd say. Provided a nice subtle, sweet flavor on my smoked chicken wings.

GREAT for SMOKING

Heretic2 June 29, 2020

I actually got these by mistake. I didn't notice that they were BIG chunks. The steaks came out with a great smokey flavor. Drove the neighbors nuts LOL.

The best wood to use. Was surprised my local store stopped stocking it. Was able to get the same price online and they worked great.

Good product for the price

jasonb1980 March 6, 2021

I have found that these bags of "chunks" tend to be 1/4 bark, 1/4 chips to small chunks, 1/4 good-sized/usuable chunks, and 1/4 extra large pieces. After I split the extra large chunks down to a usable size, I am left with 50% good/usable chunks, 25% chips/small chunks, and 25% bark/wasted product. Overall I am happy with this product for the price, but the sizes should be more consistent. Pecan is a good all-around smoking wood...
