Quick recap: Tailor Master is a speed game where you’re placing a shirt or pants tile on a piece of fabric to match the goal card clothing pattern. It’s trickier than it sounds with the crazy array of patterns on the fabric, and it’s pretty addicting. The expansion adds two new pieces of fabric with new patterns, and we thought they were quite a bit harder. It could just be a case of unfamiliarity compared to the base game, though. One potential benefit of getting the expansion is that you can play with four players, but I’m not entirely sold on the gameplay at four, which is a cooperative team version. In teams of two, you’re racing to place your pieces per usual, but are encouraged to help your teammate place theirs if you finish first. The first team to get both placed rings the bell. Technically it plays at four players, but it still feels like you may as well play two different games of Tailor Master next to each other. That said, the expansion could be a good solution if you have two people who are consistently quicker than the other two. The more experienced of the group can take on the harder fabric while the less speedy folks can use the original mats. More than anything, I think the New Challenge expansion offers replayability to Tailor Master fans who want a little refresh. If you’re looking at Tailor Master and want the harder pattern, note the expansion is fully playable on its own, but it doesn’t come with a bell. The bell is not at all required for gameplay, but does make players fully commit to having their piece placed and hands off, versus just yelling ‘done’, while still fiddling. That part is a necessity for us.
