I'm not worth it
Best scanner on the market. Don't be fooled by Uniden Junk. The company will never be the same as it used to be. This does everything the SDS200 does and much more. It comes with NXDN/PROVOICE/DMR out of the box. Uniden makes you pay an additional 160.00 for that. This scanner has exceptional range. It is a rebranded GRE with a better front end. Try it you will never look back. It has a removable head unit that works with a standard CAT 5 network cable so you can mount it in your trunk and remove the head from your car when you leave. It comes with free updates through Radio Reference database, which gets updated weekly.
I love this scanner! It is very complicated and is not for beginners, but the more I am learning more all the time and it hears just about everything. That being said, if you are a beginner you can use the scanner just by entering your zip code and it will get you scanning.
Don't buy this unless you know what you are getting into. It's a hard scanner to use because the software is really complex to work with. But If you can muster through the set up and writing of the data file then you will be astonished with the scanner. Whistler scanners seem to receive better than others. I really like the customization of the scan lists. I like the ability to have 3 to 9 second delays and I love the alert tones. The detachable head does come with a head mounting kit, this makes mounting the unit so much easier than other scanners. It decodes all the proprietary modes and of course DOES NOT decode encrypted traffic, duh! Good scanner. I recommend all scanner enthusiasts to buy one.
It's not the easiest scanner to program but it does a lot more than the Uniden bcd536hp. There's no paying extra to unlock features. I'm happy with it scanning all the trunking modes right out of the box.
AWESOME radio. Not sure why do many people have problems with it. Turn it on, punch in your area, away you go!
Clear audio, excellent range (distance), zip code scanning for easy quick start! Does not do simulcast, but most scanner radios don't. High quality and top notch customer service from Whistler!
This scanner is easy to set up and very clear. The problem was that I didn't realize you can only upgrade the software if you have a Windows-based computer. I have a MacBook, and the software to update isn't compatible.
Very confusing at first, until you start to understand the basics of the Whistler programming software. It receives everything very well. Does not feel as solidly built as a Uniden, but for the price Walmart sells it for ($429 w/free shipping) it is a good buy. It decodes digital systems better than the BCD536. I do not recommend using the USB cord to program it, as it easily will error. Program directly to the USB card with PC. This scanner is not for the beginner.
The unit was DOA; all that comes up is an error msg. :-(
