I have 200 watts of solar panels, 2 AGM batteries 210 /ah, and other 12volt stuff. I wanted a solution to the messy ice situation campng etc. I decided on this unit because of the dimensions and power consumption which is about 30 watt hours averaging in the heat in the summer. I purchased this unit April of 2017 and it has been running ever since with no problems. I keep food and beverages in there always and I did throw some produce away after a month! gonna happen anyway. Now I run mine off of dedicated solar charged batteries, not the vehicle starting battery so you would have to calculate discharge rate for your own battery. I keep mine at 30 degrees F always. some defrosting is required occasionally. Greatest camping solution ever. I keep wine and cheese in there always. So 7 months going strong. I did get a cover bag and an extended warranty. I will buy again. At 34 degrees bottled water will freeze.
This unit is fantastic. I had one when I owned a motorhome and used it for a freezer most of the time. Now I have a home theater and use it for beer and sodas and it keeps them as cold as they can be without freezing. You can also use it as a small freezer if you so desire. It serves its purpose very well
...it started to have a cooling problem.I emailed Whynter. Amber R. contacted me and answered all my questions, she was awesome. Shes aid I could ship it or deliver it to them in Brea, CA. I took it to them and two days later Amber R. told me it was ready. Whynter has great products and stands behind them. I would tell my fellow campers to buy Whynter. It is a name you can trust.
Placed cooler in “basement” area of our 5th wheel trailer. Plugged it in to both an electric plug and the battery. Bought a “cigarette lighter type” end, and attached it to wires coming out of battery to other places (lights, etc). When we were plugged in at campsite, freezer ran off electric, and when driving freezer ran off battery. Freezer maintained a 0-3 degrees (F) entire time. Drove to Alaska, and freezer held about 50-60 pounds of fish (4 halibut and 4 salmon- packaged in 1.5 pound packages). Note, however, the freezer does drain the battery, so we never had the freezer only running on battery overnight.
6 months into ownership and quite a bit of uses for camping adventures and even daily use. Fast Freeze function is a greatly appreciated feature and just adds to the convenience. The surprise use was a few trips to get groceries and getting a call that would take us 2 hours off schedule. We were able to put or frozen foods in this unit and handle our business for the day. In between trips we also use it as a freezer inside our home. The 65 quart size is ideal for a week on the road with enough room for food for 2 adults for 7 days.
nice product fast delivery
So our new Whynter 65 quart freezer/refrigerator has passed our second test, this time camping in 97°+ weather for 3 days. We set the temperature at 28°F and it maintained an inside temp 30-31°F, with very frequent opening and closing of the lid, in a un-airconditioned camper.
Works very well but it is quite large & maybe too large for use in an SUV. Bottom has some protrusions that might rub upholstery.
I've had my Whynter for about 15 months. Last year I lived at an RV Park for 3 months in central California, where temperatures reached 100+ degree temps. I had the fridge connected to a secondary battery during the day when I was at work and then AC power when I got back to camp. A couple times my battery died and my fridge wasn't being powered. Usually only for a couple hours, but everything stayed nice and cold until I could plug in and charge my battery. I also have he insulated transit bag. The reason for the 4 stars is twice, including 3 weeks ago, the temperature started climbing. I unplugged it and then plugged it back in before doing the Fast Freeze to get it back down to temp, and then it works fine again. Overall I love it and highly recommend it!
I bought this 65qt fridge freezer 3 years ago and have driven with it all over the USA. With the addition of the bag for extra insulation it would keep food perfectly cold! For the money it was a great fridge. The only complaints over long term are this: 1) the plastic coated baskets are not durable enough the coating cracks and rust seeps out into the fridge. 2) the same baskets the larger one rubs on the bottom of the fridge surface and makes small gloves. 3) when we less stuff in it the verted area would rattle (just annoying) but not prohibitively. And after three years of nearly daily use it will not cool below 75 F deg.. not sure why I hear the compressor turn on?
