Customers generally love the Whynter ARC-14S 9500 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, giving it a solid 4.5-star average rating. Users consistently praise its effectiveness in cooling even large spaces, often mentioning its ability to handle high ceilings and oversized rooms. Many appreciate its power and speed in lowering temperatures, especially during extreme heat.
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor drawbacks were noted. A few users mentioned the unit's noise level, comparing it to other window units. Installation, particularly managing the dual hoses, was also mentioned as a potential challenge for some. One review mentioned a shipping issue, highlighting the importance of checking the unit upon arrival.
The Whynter ARC-14S is ideal for those needing a powerful, portable air conditioner for larger rooms or spaces with high ceilings. It's a great choice for homeowners looking for effective cooling during extreme heat, but those sensitive to noise should be aware of the potential for some sound.
Verified purchasers overwhelmingly praised the Whynter ARC-14S's cooling power and effectiveness. Many shared experiences using it in challenging situations, such as cooling oversized garages or supplementing existing central AC systems. This reinforces the reliability and performance claims made by the manufacturer.
The Whynter ARC-14S 9500 BTU (14,000 BTU ASHRAE) Portable Air Conditioner stands out for its dual-hose design, a significant advantage over single-hose units. This dual-hose system allows for more efficient cooling by expelling hot air outside, rather than recirculating it within the room. This results in a more powerful and consistent cooling effect, making it ideal for larger spaces or rooms where rapid temperature reduction is desired. Its relatively compact size belies its cooling power, making it a practical solution for those seeking effective climate control without sacrificing valuable floor space. The ARC-14S also incorporates user-friendly controls and features designed for ease of operation and maintenance, contributing to its overall appeal. This model offers a balance of power and portability, making it a strong contender for anyone needing a reliable and efficient portable air conditioning solution.
Unlike some other Whynter portable AC units that may prioritize energy efficiency over raw cooling power, the ARC-14S prioritizes powerful cooling. While other models in the Whynter lineup might offer features like dehumidification or different BTU ratings, the ARC-14S focuses on delivering robust cooling performance for spaces requiring a significant temperature drop. This makes it a suitable choice for those who need a strong, reliable cooling solution, even in warmer climates or larger rooms.
Consider the size of the room you intend to cool before purchasing the Whynter ARC-14S. While its 14,000 BTU ASHRAE rating provides significant cooling power, larger rooms may require a more powerful unit. Also, ensure you have adequate space for the dual exhaust hoses to vent hot air effectively outside. Proper placement and ventilation are crucial for optimal performance. Finally, review the unit's dimensions to confirm it will fit comfortably in your desired location.
Bought the ARC-14S about 2 months ago after extensive research and review reading. We wanted/needed something for our oversized 3 car garage and have been extremely pleased with this unit. We took the advice mentioned in several of the reviews, wrap/insulate the exhaust hose, made our own window outlet out of 3/4 inch plywood, separated the input and exhaust hoses further and insulated the wood/window where the hoses are. Works great and keeps our huge garage very comfortable. We like the features it has and we've never had an issue with the drainage. We have it set at 79 and it's made just a minor increase in our electric bill.
Bought because my HOA after 4 years decided they didn't like my seasonal window AC. Cools the large master bedroom nicely. I paid about $450 and it came from Wayfair actually. No shipping no tax. Deal. Only minor gripe I have is the are where the air comes out blows mainly to one side even when you adjust the directional slider which doesn't seem to do much. Other than that it does what it's supposed to. Cools efficiently.
This unit has been able to cool our large master suite quickly and very well. It was easy to install and we haven't run into issues yet. The only concern I will mention is that it is not very quiet but it's on par with most window units I have used. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Bought this about two months ago in the highest heat of the North Carolina summer. It cools our 400 sq. ft room with no problem. The vent points upward, so we turn on our ceiling fan (mid-level speed) and it spreads the cool air right over our seating area below. Even if we turned on the AC at the end of a hot day (when the heat index had hit 105 degrees), it would quickly lower the temp in the room to a tolerable level. Can't wait to use the heater feature this winter.
June was hottest June in New Mexico since 60s we were told. We have 18 foot ceilings in our living room -- the AC was easy to install and we use it almost every day. We may buy a smaller one for the bedrooms but for now it cools us and is quik about doing so if we've had it off for awhile.
This unit has been a life saver this past summer when it worked daily for at least 12 hours every day to help take the load of my main house central ac that was having a hard time keeping up. It will require a plexiglass cut to size if using in the type of window shown in the photo.
Delivery was very prompt. Packaged very well. Easy to install. Works outstanding
I have another Whynter portable AC unit and one thing that is missing on this one, is an indicator of the current room temperature. Granted, my other model only showed it in fan mode and dehumidifying mode, but you could at least determine it. I would also like the fan to shut off soon after the AC shuts down - I do not want the fan running when it is not needed. I have had my other unit for several years. the hoses did deteriorate and started falling apart (duct taped them together this season), but the unit functions without issue. I am hoping this unit brings years of satisfactory service. Another difficlty is that it comes with an additional piece for wide or vertical installations, but no way to adjust to different sizes and it is too thick to 'trim' If you have a smaller to medium window, you may need to rig up something to fill the gap (the packing material did come in handy!) Be aware that there is a minimum space requirement - not just the unit but the space for the hoses, and moving it to a space not directly from the window will require more space because the hoses are large and need to be a distance away from the wall to make the bend.
It was easy enough to set up. But once plugged in it was incredibly noisy! So much so, but I had a hard time sleeping when the compressor kicked in. Likewise, the dehumidifier didn't seem to work. It was damp in the room I used it in. I used it for a couple of days, but I didn't feel that it was worth the money I spent. I sent it back. The manufacturer was excellent about accepting the claim and refunding my money.
It's too expensive for the lack of features, its extremely hard to install one hose on these types of ACS never mind two hoses, the hoses get extremely extremely hot and you have to buy special aluminum tape to seal the heat out, it is extremely loud like a jet engine, there is hot air coming out of the side of the hose connection at the top, the vent at the top has to be open and shut manually, twice it has blown hot air and I had to shut it off and restart it , which meant it was an unbearable 87 in that room, it's extremely heavy I had to use a dolly to get it in the house and where I wanted it installed , because I bought it on marketplace, I have to wait for my refund when it actually gets back to where it was purchased from instead of the refund being instantly I'm still waiting for my refund after returning it, I do not recommend this product I can't trust it to not blow hot air when I'm not home and the drain plug is at the very bottom of it, making it impossible to drain into anything if it needed to be drained I returned it
Simply select the "Dehumidify" mode on the control panel. The unit will then remove moisture from the air. Refer to your manual for detailed instructions.
Check the unit's dimensions (found in the product description) to ensure it fits your window and the included window kit. The kit is designed for standard windows.
Ensure the exhaust hose is properly sealed to prevent warm air from re-entering. Check the air filter for cleanliness and clean or replace as needed.
While it's not silent, the ARC-14S is designed for relatively quiet operation. Noise levels vary depending on the selected fan speed.
