Amust buy don't let the name fool you

lady July 7, 2025

Will recommend Would buy again if I ever needed to replace I have a one bedroom four room apartment. This is placed central in the living room and it cools the apartment better than any AC. I've had. I love the swivel fan. There is really no drainage that needs to be emptied from this AC since I've had it which has been over a week and a half now I do have the drainage set up as a continuous drain with the hose included into a bucket in case I leave for long periods of time. I don't want the AC to shut off because it's full I have not had any problems with this AC. The sound coming from the AC is pretty standard as any other floor model AC. I find it to be loud but that's the normal sound from a floor model AC. It's nice when you shut it off just due to the sound but don't let that deter you. it's normal. It was very easy to install self-explanatory whether you had a floor model AC before or you didn't the power cord is long enough that you don't need to have this directly on top of an outlet. The remote makes it easy to run from any room in my home. It's clean. It's sleek. It's weight is about the same as any floor model AC. It's heavy to move around but once you have it installed, you really shouldn't have to move it around.

Great unit! It was easy to set up and cools my bedroom quickly. This is my third Whynter air conditioner and I have always been pleased with the way they performed. Highly recommend!

To Me It's The Cadillac of Portable A/C's

PA Ray September 11, 2019

Yesterday, here in the US Poconos, it was humid in my home. So instead of suffering I took the cover off my new portable A/C unit , that I thought I wouldn't need any longer this year, and was reminded of how nice this thing is. I upgraded to this 14K BTU unit this season. It does a great job, even with my sky chalet type ceiling. I loved how the listing showed the actual BTU's as opposed to the listed BTU's. I love how the vent swings up and down slowly to circulate the air. I love how quiet it is. I love how the hose is assembled without a screwdriver. and stays put in the back when you need to adjust the unit. I love the extension on the window piece that actually covers my entire vertical window opening. (The window opens horizontally so the opening is longer.) Plus it's not very noisy. I also appreciate this review request was just now sent to me, giving me time to use it and to get to know the pros and cons. Not 2 weeks after I got it where everything is always peachy.

one heck of a great AC!

james July 24, 2023

first, this is my second arc-148ms that I own, I also own a duel hose whynter 122ds thats rated at 7000BTU SAAC/DOE, the arc-148MS is a single hose rated at 10300 BTU SACC/DOE. . a duel hose vs single hose doesnt matter, ONLY the SACC/DOE BTU rating. this single hose arc-148ms outperforms my duel hose whynter becouse its rated at a larger BTU. now to tested specs on the arc-148ms. it uses 11.3AMPS max and 1300 watts, I HIGHLY suggest you run it and nothing else on a 15 or 20 amp line in your house. next, this thing cools like crazy and has an excellent thermostate. Im in mississippi and run one in my 750 SQ FT living room and it keeps it moderatly cool on days when highs are 97 and lows are 78!, in my 200 sq ft bedroom another arc 148ms cools like crazy even more!!. NOTE: you are NOT going to get your living room down to 66 degrees in a heatwave with ANY air conditioner....central, portable or window. in the 70's? yes, in the 60's ? NO......now IF you live where it never gets above 85 degrees with nights in the 60s then yes, but summer in mississippi? NOPE!. for great cooling I suggest this air conditioner in a 400 sq ft or less room. next, this is a loud AC!, at 4 feet its doing 60DBA, , at 12 feet in my living room its 55DBA, you will need to turn your TV up a bit, and the noise may help you sleep at night, but when it goes from off to on at 12am ( thermostat cycling) it may wake you up, maybe not. but for the steal I bought this at ( $387!) I can put up with some noise. again, the noise is the ONLY negative Ill give it. NEXT, Ibve NEVER had to drain any water from it as it automataccly evaporates the water, and Im in VERY humid mississippi!!. HIGHLY reccommended, one final thing.....setup is VERY easy, took me less than 30 minutes to set up.

You'r cooling me off !

razee July 30, 2019

We have been using this unit for about three weeks now and it works well. I really like the vent hose connections and the ease with which they attach to the window spacer. This was the hottest July on record in southern New England and this A/C unit was a part of how we got through the heat waves. Thanks

I had a nad experience with FedEx delivering my item. But Whynter, LLC was very professional in addressing my concern. Although I didn't keep this unit due to it looking like it fell from the back of the truck after being set on fire, I absolutely will be ordering another unit from this company and I am praying this one will arrive in better shape! I totally understand how it arrived was not their fault because surely they would never ship anything to a customer in that condition. I am just waiting for my refund so I can pay for my new order of another unit. I will say, it is heavy. Thank goodness for wheels. Noise level wasn't bad. No, it does not cool as well as a window unit, but I need something easy to install until my central heat and air in my home is replaced. When I did plug it up to see how it worked, and to decide if I would re-order, after unplugging it, water ram from it. Hoping that doesn't happen with the next unit.

We just got it and haven't used it yet - so not quite sure on any of the quality. It's pretty expensive, but Walmart had the cheapest price. It's SUPER HEAVY

Works great

Margaret July 21, 2019

I bought this for my daughter's college apartment. Set up was very easy. I had to trim one of the panels. I was able to trim it easily using tin snips. The only problem I encountered was that the exhaust tube is not long enough. My daughter's apartment is partially below ground so the windows are high up. I had to elevate the unit using 2 milk crates. There should be an option for a longer hose or a hose extender.

Loud but cools the room

anonymous July 29, 2025

Pros - it does cool the space down fairly quickly. Cons - extremely loud and the settings are weirdly complicated. When on full cool and low fan it sounds like you're sleeping next to a jet engine. I would not repurchase this or suggest others to buy as I think there are better options out there.

A smoother Return policy for heavy items

S June 29, 2026

My review is on the return policy. This item is a heavy product and Walmart only offers a return to Walmart facility. Unfortunately I do not have the capacity to keep the portable AC upright and transport it to the store safely without injury. It was a hassle to contact 1800 Walmart on 4 different occasions to arrange for a pickup. I would advise they provide an easier way for heavy items to be returned without having to face possible injury. It magnifies a stressful situation.
