Whether you have limited time or have extra time and enjoy using your artistic abilities, this 10 lb. tub of Wilton Decorator White Vanilla Flavored Fondant is perfect for a novice or an expert. Being so malleable, it’s quite easy to roll out and almost effortless to use. It’s recommended that powdered sugar be used when rolling it out to help keep it from sticking, but I found that it doesn’t really need it if you don’t over work it. I imagine 3 or 4 cakes (depending on size) could be covered with this amount of fondant or countless decorations could be created. So far, the kids and I have used cookie cutter shapes to put on top of sugar cookies. The kids had a blast rolling it out and trying their attempt at designing tie dye decorations by adding food coloring. I did find that adding a little water to the bottom of the fondant helped it adhere better to the cookies. As for the taste and texture of this fondant, I find the flavor tastes more like marshmallow than true vanilla. It’s not a bad taste, just very sweet. The texture seems to be in between a smooth and a granular type feel, like sugar. Kids definitely love it! I’d like to experiment incorporating flavored extracts such as orange or peppermint into the fondant and look forward to trying it on the endless amount of treats it will compliment! Absolutely recommend purchasing this Wilton fondant!
I like this fondant especially since it comes in individual packaging so you can use a small amount and still preserve the rest, it has a good flavor vanilla so you could add another flavor to it or you can add coloring, it has a lot of different ways that you can apply it either as a smooth top on the cake or the cut outs for decoration or you can use them on top of cookies. I am very impressed with the quality of the product and I do recommend it.
Excellent product. Good quality icing and great taste. I loved how it came as bulk, and divided into 4 bags, that way The rest of the bags will stay fresh. I can keep in the kitchen pantry, but the left over from the bag I use put it in the refrigerator. It's very soft, easy to deal with. My girls used to make flowers over their cupcakes. Amazing and great fun too! Thank you so much for this product. I would recommend to family and friends. and will buy again.
I have been professionally decorating cakes for three years now and although I've only tried two different types, this is by far the best! It is super workable and not too stiff. It leaves a nice smooth surface without needing to add ANY corn starch/sugar or shortening. Other fondant I've used wrinkles more easily and cracks like crazy, but not Wilton! And did I mention the taste? Amazing!
I can’t wait to experiment with this fondant, there is a lot in this tub! It’s vanilla and super sweet as fondant normally is. My daughter-in-law and I are baking this weekend and we will both be using it to decorate our cake off competition this weekend. She is a professional baker so I’m pretty sure who will win this cake off competition. The fondant is made by Wilton , which assured me of the quality right off the bat! I would recommend this brand to anyone.
I use a lot of fondant in my cake decorating side-gig, and I go through this stuff by the bucket. I don’t cover cakes in fondant but instead I use it as decorations, to make sculpted toppers, and to cover cake drums. Over the years I have tried all the well-know fondant brands, but I always come back to Wilton. It is soft and flexible, it is easy to roll, and if you add some gum-tex to the fondant you can make figures and toppers that stand on their own. So, like I said, I’ve tried almost every brand of fondant on the market, and I always come back to Wilton.
I really liked the fondant made by Wilton ,the vanilla flavored fondant was very easy to use.Simply roll out the amount you need to cover your cake and then place fondant over and smooth out. I really like the look of my cake after using the fondant,it looked like a cake that you would get at a bakery. Now I am a first time user of fondant and I am not a baker by any means but my cake looks average and I had fun.I will continue using this Wilton vanilla fondant because it taste great. This tub contains four packages of fondant that equals out to 10 lbs. Overall I think this Wilton Fondant is great for first timers and professionals.
I was making a birthday cake for my niece who turned 1... Everything was planned meticulously for perfect results. Just after achieving perfect height and frosting being leveled to perfection, I roll out my fondant and proceeded to drape it over my cake. Pretty much instantly, while attempting to smooth the fondant (beginning at the top) it started to separate. Small little areas at first. I continued to keep smoothing the fondant all around the cake and thought I'd just cover up some of those areas later.....I let it rest for an hour, came back into the kitchen to find the fondant was sliding right down the sides of the cake. Same thing happened to my sis-in-law when she used Wilton fondant for a wedding cake! If you have a small 6" round cake, maybe even an 8", it holds up ok. Definitely NOT for anything bigger!
I'm a novice cake maker and follow the rules to a T. I even start with videos up. I met with a cake supply owner and designed the cake based on my skill level. I've done mostly butter cream but my first ever was fondant. I knew nothing and thought, how hard could it be? A couple loads of crisco later, the cake was more than presentable for my son's birthday. I met tonight when 4 girlfriends for what should have been an awesome night. One of your friends is actually very talented and does cakes on the side. I thought this is great, I'm sure I'll need help at some point. To end a long story, the kneading was done perfectly, the fondant dried and cracked on edges while I was half way through rolling. The first foax tier was small enough that it didn't mattter. Next we try and cover a larger tier and decide to work quickly. The cracks were there so I slowly dabbed with crisco as I'd done in the past and it looked weird, I wanted to be careful not to over knead but the texture now change into something id not experienced. Slightly more crisco. Bad results. Imagibe picking up a handful of damp sand at the beach. We slowly add more corn starch. More sand. we work, knead, and who knows that else into the $30 worth of fondant like it was CPR on a dying patient. We finally give up. This is ridiculous, we could have been done entirely by now? We open the black color and move quickly as it was a large tier. I'll attach the pictures. We were up until 1:30 am. Now I don't have time for my gumpaste flowers which is unacceptable. I'm furious and with the time I really don't have, I have get a refund for 4 boxes of fondant, purchase the better Satin as I had been advised and start from scratch. This cake is free and for a cousin and NEVER would I ever present something like this. Never.
I just bought this fondant and all of these cracks appeared when I was flattening it and once I put it on the cake it completely stretched and separated. I went to go buy a new package and still all of these cracks began to appear. I use to love working with this fondant brand and never had an issue but now I am going to have to start looking for another brand.
