Great brush
Love these Winsor brushes. THE are just soft enough for oil paints, hol their points and study. Will continue to use them.
This brush provides the opportunity to apply Thick lush oil paint brush strokes to your painting with beautiful results!
I have used Winsor & Newton products for a long time and have never been disappointed. The brushes are exactly as described. I will continue to use them and the acryllic paint. First class. Second point. Jerrys Artarama shipped immediately and I received the order a few days later.
If you are relatively new to oil painting--as I am--brushes pose a lot of problems. I know I need some filberts, some brights, and some rounds. And I need some stiffer hog bristle and some softer synthetic or sable ones. Now, which brands do I buy? The Winsor Newtown Monarch line helps me winnow down the forest of choices to a few reliable tools. I find they work well, wash well, and last well. Given the cost of brushes, this is important to me. I hope this review helps another fledgling painter to make a safe choice.
It is very nice that the manufacturer does not torture or kill animals for artist's pleasure. These are better than any maimed animal brushes and I have used many brands, styles, and types of brushes for many years. These make smoother brush marks than hog hair or synthetic hog hair and are a joy to work with. These are my go to brand now for oil painting. They are not too soft nor flimsy and the strands stay in the ferrule, clean well with any medium, wash well with Master's cleaner and stay stiff. These do not disperse as other brushes I've seen do. They last long enough and the price is reasonable enough so I can buy when in need.
I recently began using gessoed wood panels that have an extremely smooth surface. These brushes are perfect for that surface AND canvas... the paint doesn't slide around the surface. I can blend more easily. And the fact that no animals were harmed to make them is the best reason of all to buy them!
