Shortcuts in production
I own a clapper that I got ten years ago, and I decided I wanted another for insurance, since I use it at jam sessions. The first one has knots on flexible cords between the slats, giving it a very fluid motion. This one has a much stiffer cord, and the slats are glued to the cord. The effect is a much more rigid clapper that lacks many of the nuances of the knotted version. Many of the slats are more taking up room than being part of a fluid action that makes the instrument so much fun.

Just a toy
This instrument is not for a musician. It is very stiff, and offers little variation in sound. It might be good as a toy for children
