Almost as good as what you would get from the in-store food deli at a Chinese grocery store but these cost twice what you'd pay at that same Chinese grocery. They are also smaller in size so these are way over priced but better than any other frozen BBQ buns I've ever bought. Okay for a splurge, but the next time I get to a Chinese grocery (the closest is about 80 miles from me) I think, I'll ask to buy a couple dozen uncooked and then take them home and freeze them. Im generally pretty lazy when it comes to groceries and willing to pay extra for convenience but these are outrageously expensive for what you're getting. I said I would recommend these but only if they triple what you get for the same price.
Soooo good we love them so much! To us they're not salty at all the taste is just right. Lots of stuffing/meat - flour is very soft - has a little sweetness to it, not too much just perfect. Not so much of ginger which is a plus for me. Even my picky mom loves them.....will definitely re-purchase :)
Im just getting into asian cusine in general and trying to immerse myself in the cultire bc ive learned japanese. this is called 肉まん or nikuman in japan which is a steamed meat bun. And THIS BRAND is wonderful. You would think it would get mush in the microwave but it dosent, its a great texture and the bbq pork inside is awesome.
I love these and have them with hot sauce or bbq sauce! Easy on the go meal as I don't get long breaks at work!! A must freezer staple if you work long hours!!
For frozen bao buns, these taste OK. They are a bit pricey which bring their value down. If you are hungry, they're good as a snack but don't make a meal. For the high price, I've removed a star. For taste, I've removed half a star. My actual rating is 3.5 stars.
I've been eating these Chinese roast pork buns since childhood. This Wow Bao branded pork buns have an unusual aftertaste that is not as good tasting as some other manufacturers brands that I have personally tasted. These other bao buns are normally sold at specialty Asian market grocery stores in larger cities. These Wow Bao porks buns are the only choice I can buy locally at the Walmart frozen groceries area. Like I mentioned above there are much better tasting roasted pork buns out there and Walmart needs to rotate their marketplace sellers to stock other branded Chinese pork buns so customers can try them and make their own determination what taste good or bad.
Not really filled as much as the cost suggests. The moist bread exterior is decadent. Some stores and stalls in the Hawaiian islands offer larger, plumper, more juicy and delicious variants, including bread flavor or layers. They call their version of the Chinese Bao a Monapua, and other Asian restaurants and buffets also may offer similar delicacies, with more or less refinement, cost, and delivery.
These are decent but the are nothing like the discontinued pizza bao's they used to make. These are so dry they leave chunks of pork fat to try to make it less so. The pizza ones were perfect. Meaty, cheesy goodness.
They changed the filling recipe in May '26... BEFORE they were SO GOOD. The texture used to be jammy, tender, and clean , and the flavor WAS great. Now they've added TRASH FILLERS to bulk-up the filling so it has HALF the flavor and the texture is MEALY and DRY.
I wanted to try this brand of bun, looks like it has a good amount of filling. But twice It was on my home delivery order and twice it was out of stock by the time my order was being filled. I get pressured to complete all review requests immediately, even this one I never actually received. Should I eventually try one, it is a shame that Walmart reviews can not be updated. That would make reviews on this site far more reliable.
