Love our Wyze cams. Have them in the barn and pasture so we are able to check on them when away and also we can catch all our baby goats silliness! Night vision is great picture is great. Love on an acre and have great wifi connection, we do have a deco mesh system which may help with that.
I have owned this camera since version 1, groundbreaking. The battery lasts longer if you adjust motion sensitivity and recognizing humans vs pets. I bought the new color night vision and it was difficult to connect, very difficult. I had to contact support and reset modem and camera several times and move it close to the modem and try a few more times. I believe they were working on updates because now I have no issues. I use it in a very hot climate, however this one is not in the sun, but rather under a patio cover. Yes you should run the wire through the house or in the wall, but I'd rather have an installer do that. The camera works well at night and day. The picture is clear and vibrant. Rather easy to install with either the magnetic foot and base that you screw I to the wall, or you can just stand it on a ledge, tree, fence or shelf.
This product is paradigm shifting. The ability to place a camera anywhere regardless of power opens up a lot of possibilities. Including the ability to relocate them on a whim or for a temporary purpose. A single charge often goes a couple of months before I have to recharge, which is simply amazing! Having all events stored in the cloud even if the camera is stolen is awesome too. Finally, I have always been concerned about my old Dropcam wasting a ton of internet bandwidth each day and wondered if Wyze did the same. The fact that this is a battery operated camera guarantees that it isn't streaming continuously to the cloud recorders.
This is my fourth outdoor cam. I added a solar panel to charge as its minimally accessible. The camera works great, but the Wyze app isn't that great - not very responsive. It and another one are about 100' from the base station. Can take some time to get alive picture. Even the one closer can take some time and there are occasions it just doesn't want to pull up a live pic. The notifications are generally good. By comparison to the much more expensive Nest cameras, the time to pull up a live pic is NO comparison. Picture quality is good and the new Ver3 is superior. I wish Wyze had an upgrade policy!
The camera is nice, but I was very disappointed to learn that there is no playback capability (outside of events) nor constant recording options, even when plugged into the solar panel, unless you set individual "scheduled recordings" every time you want constant recording. This severely restricts the usefulness of the camera for me and, had I know about this limitation, I would have gone with the Cam v3 instead of wasting the additional money on this and the solar panel. The ability to use it without a wired connection or internet access is OK, but only secondary to its main purpose.
1: The Wyze Cam Outdoor v2 has TWO MicroSD memory card slots. One is in the camera. The other is in the base station. Which slot does what? Wyze doesn't tell you . Anywhere! I have tried both slots and have never seen a video from my Wyze Cam Outdoor v2. 2: Contrary to the instructions, do not disconnect the (provided) Ethernet cable from your router, because nothing in the Wyze Cam Outdoor v2 Starter Bundle has WiFi conectivity. 3: The base station communicates with up to 4 cameras via a proprietary wireless protocol.
I bought this for the front of my house, where there is almost always movement happening most of the day. The only way to maximize battery life is by leaving everything at the default settings, which most definitely will result in many missed events of something I may want to see if something were to happen. 5 minute cool down? 15 second clips? Come on…the first time I set it how I wanted, the battery lasted a day. A DAY. The second time I adjusted the settings a little and got 3 days out of it. This is with the solar panel too, which I think is pretty worthless. Will have to rethink a better solution for a camera at this location.
I have loved all your products. I was so excited to have outdoor cameras that were wireless. But I have found that one of the cameras have not kept its charge. I have had to already reconnect twice since it goes off line. I plugged it in and it was dead. Not sure why it's not keeping its charge the other one is awesome! Kinda frustrating…
Camera is not like the wired Wyze cameras - it does not continuously record, even when a notification is triggered. All you get is the 12 second video. Wyze should really reevaluate the outdoor cameras to be more like the wired ones. If motion is triggered, there should be a way to allow it to record to the on board SD card for a specified amount of time. The only type of recording is scheduled recordings which cannot be setup to run more then once at a time. I was very disappointed in these cameras given how pleased I was with the original Wyze cam and the V3 cam. I have sent the outdoor cams back because they are not at all what I was expecting with my experience with the standard Wyze cam. Go with the V3 if you are looking for the features that Wyze is known for, not the outdoor ones.
I have it paired up with the solar panel. Charges well with the panel. I have two of them on the same base station and every two days the base station loses connection where I have to power cycle the base station to connect to the camera and wifi. Base station is about 15 feet from my router. Tried switching out the base station, I have the latest software on all the cameras and the base station. Image quality for 1080p is okay but fine details are missing, cannot read license plate from 20+ feet. Sound quality is muffled and I get constant false alerts from areas I black out in the gride zone. Pixelated videos and sometime ghosted images from downloaded videos. I cannot recommend this product for the price. The potential for a great wireless camera is there but the hardware and software is holding it back.
