So far, so good! It was very easy to physically hook up and I do like that it's smaller and very sleek compared to my old controller that was on it's last leg. I do need to make some additional adjustments on my end to truly optimize the functionality, but that's not related to the device at all. Happy to have made the switch!
Hook it up and forget about it! This controller using the weather app is awesome. You program according to your type of grass, dirt, bushes, flowers and type of sprinkler heads, and using the weather app it takes care of everything. It chooses what days, how often, and how long for each station, ..if there is rain in the forecast it doesn't water…seriously, my yard has never looked better.
The sprinkler controller was a great upgrade to the aging controller originaly installed in this home. It has performed very well. I did have a few hiccups initialy after install. It would show activation of zones but would not actually activate the sprinklers. That was all resolved after redoing some wiring on my part (so technically not an issue with the controller) After that it's been smooth sailing. Very easy to install, setup, run. Running and setting up the schedules has been a breeze compared to the outdated controllers.
Very easy to program and operate. BUT, trying to do anything using the buttons and front face is all most impossible because the numbers/display is so dim - you literally can't see anything light up unless you cover the controller with a dark sheet/towel, then stick your head in this now improvised darkroom- and it is still dim. But, if you get it connect, then using the app is easy. The reset/connect button should be relocated so that when the controller is inserted in the outdoor enclosure you can get to it without having to dismount the controller.
This sprinkler works really well and I would recommend buying it. But a word to wyze, your forgetting that everyone is not so tech savvy. There needs to be an indepth video with all the ways it can be set up. It's not so easy for the older people like me. Don't get me wrong you've done a great job but please consider making it more user friendly for everyone.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 starts is because the specs on the sprinkler box are lacking. I didn't know what size conduits to buy that would fit the ports in the bottom of the box. So it was a bit of trial and error and a lot of electrical tape to be safe.
This controller does a lot of things really well and here are a few of them. The app interface is really good. I had a Rachio controller at my last house for 4 years and it is very similar. I haven't been able to test the "Smart Schedule" yet because I have new sod so my watering needs are different than an established lawn, but from playing around with it, it seems like it will work very well. The intelligent cycle skips all work as you would expect from a smart controller. On thing I love is that each zone has a lot of custom inputs that helps out a ton with the smart schedule. Other units will ask for soil/grass type, sun exposure, etc but this also asks what type of sprinklers you have which makes a big difference for run type. I have rotary nozzles which need much longer run times because they emit less water than traditional fixed or rotor heads. Here are 2 things I hope that Wyze changes:1) when you set a schedule by hand you can only pick odd/even days or specific days of the week. Most of the time you will want to say every 3-5 days which you cannot do. You can pick specific days of the week but then your intervals will not be consistent. 2) It's hard to know when the smart controller will skip a cycle for rain. You can set a notification to let you know when a cycle is skipped, but it doesn't let you know in advance; only when the cycle would have otherwise started. These issues aren't big enough for me to wish I had a different product, but I do hope Wyze changes this.
Everything was pretty easy to install and hook up but got a defective power supply. The screws that suppose to hold the power supply together looks like it too short, so it fell apart in my hands. I had to wrap it together with electrical tape so that I could use it. I didn't have any spare screws that were the same size but longer and I was in the middle of installing it, so I didn't want to stop.
The interface is simple and easy to use. Only drawback is once the schedule is set any attempts to change the schedule haven't registered with the device. I had new pavers installed that needed to dry for 48 hours so I turned off the sprinklers from the app. They still came on anyway. I tried multiple times after that to cancel the schedule to ensure it wasn't user error and the sprinklers still came on at the originally scheduled time, even when they indicated on the app they wouldn't come on.
The "hyper-local" radar is apparently more geared toward the general part of the city than specific to a few blocks around my address. We keep having rain near us and the Sprinkler Controller mistakenly interprets it as having reached us. It decides to skip watering and the grass suffers. It also doesn't notify me when it skips even though I turned on that option. It silently makes mistakes. It would be great if I could see a list of historical time slots labeled either white or blue depending if we "got" rain. Then I could see ahead of time what it "thinks" happened. Even better if the app would let me toggle past time slots based on reality. That would give the Sprinkler Controller corrected data. The corrections could also be fed back to the Sprinkler Plus Weather Service people so they can realize how often they drop the ball.
