this auger digs 4 inch holes for fenceposts quickly and easily running off a 3500 watt generator. nice quality tool!
Dang, this knocked my husband on his bottom into the street. It dug into heavy TN clay soil. Powerful machine.
I'm really enjoying it thus far. I've drilled approximately 40 holes, each 6 inches in diameter and 20 inches deep. I can manage around 12 holes before needing to let the digger rest. Dealing with very hard clay (Colorado plains), this tool cuts through it with ease.
I bought this auger specifically for digging holes for fence posts. I decided to test it by planting a hibiscus. It easily dug two holes slightly over a foot deep without the need to frequently pull it up. The noise level was significant enough to require using headphones to block it out.
I awarded it 5 stars because it performed precisely as I needed – drilling holes. However, be cautious as it has the potential to cause injury. I discovered that crouching low and bracing it against my leg helped absorb the quick, violent, sudden motions that you are likely to experience.
It worked well for me. I drilled over 30 holes and encountered only one rock and one tree root. If you have a rocky terrain, it might not be as effective. Similarly, if you have a lot of tree roots, it might not work well. I used it for digging holes for a chain-link fence.
A very effective tool. One drawback is that the on/off button occasionally gets stuck in the "on" position, which can be risky if unexpected. However, after using it for a couple of days, it tends to stop when the button/trigger is released most of the time.
I purchased this product thinking it was a low-torque, oversized drill. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was able to use it with a 10-inch auger and an extension pole to dig 12 holes that were 4 feet deep each for a pole barn. I decided to try this product because it was cheaper than other augers, and I only needed it for one project. Even if the motor burnt out, I wouldn't have lost much money. However, the product still works fine, and I'm very impressed with it.
This tool can be dangerous if not handled with care. If the auger is obstructed and stops turning, you must be ready to release the trigger and be cautious about controlling its movement at the top. However, the power it provides allows for effective digging. Having two handles for two people to hold might enhance its safety and usability.
The product arrived in a damaged box with a large hole and crushed corner. However, all the parts were still inside. We used it immediately for a small fence next to our patio, and it worked great! The maximum depth is around 18 inches, and we had to run along the edges to widen the hole for 4x4 posts. We also had to dig out loose dirt by hand. It's important to be careful when operating in rocky soil because it will jerk back HARD when it hits rocks. That being said, it has plenty of power to dig holes quickly.
