Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon - Season 1 Part 1 (Blu-ray)

(Buy Today, Maybe Try, or Pass by) This show is a hard sell to at most be "Maybe Try" if you haven't seen the TV show "InuYasha." If you have seen most, know it mostly well, or ideally have seen all the major plot points of InuYasha; this show is a "Buy Today" quality title. I didn't know much about Yashahime before I watched it. The lead is actually a tomboy not a guy in this one. Is that an dated word these days, a tomboy is a girl who dresses and to some degree acts more like a boy or more masculine than a typical girl. The show follows three late teenage daughters of the former main characters of the show InuYasha. There are subtitles constantly throughout the series with notes like "half-demon girl, Towa, daughter of Sesshomaru" and "quarter-demon, Moroha, etc..." You might be able to watch the show and understand without seeing InuYasha first but without watching at least most of InuYasha first. This show just isn't worth it. There's constant references and little detail other than titles is ever given. You need to know the backstory to fully enjoy this show. Though, InuYasha is now available on Blu-ray. I own it. I recommend it. I would also get the movie set or at least watch both the InuYasha tv show and the InuYasha movies. The movies are rather good. I own those on bluray also. I reviewed these boxsets in reverse. I've seen the entire series Yashahime (two 24 episode seasons is the entire show), InuYasha, and the InuYasha movies. It was a good story. There are highs and lows in both. If you do want to go back and watch InuYasha first, you have to just tough it out through the first 50 episodes of InuYasha. The first 50 of 185 episodes really has the worse arc of the entire series. Kikyo is terrible and I wish she would stay dead... Not all of the first 50 are bad but Kikyo ruins many in that first 50 then takes a much less frequent role occasionally appearing but never the main story driver again.
