As a senior that has made beef stew from scratch for many years....I give this 5 stars. It has real stew meat instead of the soy/ground beef in Dinty Moore and others. As we've gotten older with some health issues I can't stand in the kitchen and cook meals like I once did so I'm always on the lookout for something tasty and quick. I think this is wonderful Beef Stew! We make biscuits and then freeze them for later use at meals. We took out a biscuit, heated till warm in the oven and had a very good, satisfying meal!
This beef stew was hearty, delicious and full of beef, potatoes and carrots. I've read some reviews asserting that there was insufficient beef. I found this to be untrue. GV and Dinty Moore pale by comparison. My only issue is the price. I'm willing to pay more for quality, so I only reduced my score for ‘value' by one tick.
Heh... I have to say, being a resident of the Great Southwest, that this is the first time I've ever had Green Chile Stew, or Chile Verde, as we call it down here, that had POTATO CUBES in it. I guess they do it differently up there in Montana. Down here in New Mexico and Arizona, we put hominy, onions, carrots and lots of chiles and pork in ours, but I've never, in 77 years, seen POTATOES!!! LOL! It tasted pretty good, sauce-wise. Had a nice little after-burner, but not too much for you tenderfeetz out there. Could have used some onion, carrots and HOMINY. Had to pick the potato chunks out, but served it up on rice and it made for a quick, tasty meal.
Really had high expectations because of the brand. it's canned beef stew and it tastes like canned beef stew. meh. the difference between this and that other brand of canned beef stew is Yellowstone chopped up tiny cubes of carrot, potato and meat, all mushy and swimming in sauce.
This was ok, not great. You do get a decent amount of chunks, (aka 1/2 inch cubes of beef) in the stew. Frankly I ended up adding ingredients to get more flavor and texture. I didn't care for the overall texture of the meat or stew as a whole, but after adding some veggies, and a shot of beef consomme, it worked for me. It isn't revolting, and heats up great in the microwave, and certainly a decent quick lunch, just add a side of garlic toast or Italian bread on the side
meh. very average stew. it has a few small chunks of "meat" with lots of filler suspended in a thick gelatinous goo. the tasteless mystery meat has a pressed scraps consistency rather than an actual chunk of meat, not very appetizing. save yourself a couple bucks and go with Walmart's great value!
Overall flavor was pretty decent, tasted alot like mixing regular stew seasoning with green peppers and a hint of tomato. Color was not appealing being a blah gray, but I did notice one tiny piece of green pepper skin and a couple of dots of reddish color mixed in. Price was acceptable and the amount of potatoes and pork was pretty good. I did like the nice warm spicy heat without being overwelming.
sorry I just didn't like this one. slow heat was fine. taste to me was really not that great. pork chunks were fairly plenty but somehow dry kind of and not tough but too tough for what should be a slow cooked meat. maybe others will enjoy this. just not me.
I ordered three cans of the Yellowstone, beef stew one can. It feels like it's it's a full 15 ounce can the second can it's it doesn't feel like it's a full 15 ounce the third can was barely 2 ounces in it and the reason I opened it up, was because the way it felt and I was literally that somebody else had opened a can and sealed it back or whatever but they did not put a full can in there so will I order this again this product no ma'am I will not best of luck to anybody else. I'm very disappointed.
Walmart sent six dented cans of the wrong item. Really dented cans. I had six cans of Read German potato salad in my basket and they sent Yellowstone Cowboy Beef Stew... which may be a good product, but I don't eat canned soup / stew. Potatoe salad and beef stew. not the same thing. My order tracking does say beef stew, but I know that is not what I ordered.
